Just getting started with my tracking. I pasted from the excel spreadsheet. I am taking my Naltrexone one hour before drinking & just letting go & seeing what happens. I introduced myself in that thread, but just to keep this on the record, I took Naltrexone from November to the present. I did this as a result of going to my doc & getting detoxed by my own design. He prescribed my Valium so I could detox at home. I did and didn't drink until June. In December I really started running weekly like I used to (30 miles a week) and taking Naltrexone daily with my morning coffee & generic Wellbutrin I found I was losing weigh & things like coffee to this day just don't taste good anymore. So I've been taking the Naltrexone the way it was prescribed, to 'prevent craving'. Then I stumbled upon the Sinclair Method & wow, it's different. I only started for real on 9/16. I just tried to remember the 9/13-9/15 drinks, just to keep the week as accurate as I could. So this current week of 9/20-9/26 is my full 1st week. I am currently drinking Jim Beam shots & beers. I am finding this very interesting - I haven't fully defined a goal. I did AA from 1978-99 and then joined a church. During that time I started with O'Douls NA Beer. Then in April of 03 I started really drinking. By Oct 2008 I was doing a pint of booze a day and didn't feel good anymore. So here I am, I believe I'd like to have a goal of being able to drink without obsession, with regard to my health and not have it be an obstacle in any area of my life. I am a runner and have a great marriage with a sober (30 years) who doesn't attend AA anymore either but we have a great life. I just don't want to ruin it. One other comment about the AA years; I was always obsessed with mental issues & trying to find out what's wrong with me...that seems to be waning in the past few years and what a relief. This Sinclair method is pure chemistry and that appeals to me. I don't need analysis paralysis.

Welcome-

We could spend the rest of our lives trying to figure out why we drank too much. For me, I'm generally anxious and drinking helps a lot with that. For me, I'm social and drinking is great for socializing. For me, I like to celebrate a job well done and drinking is great for that... The list is endless. I might add that "character flaw" or "selfishness" are noticeably absent from the list of things that led me to drink. TSM works for the vast majority who try it. It happens by unlearning your addiction at a subconscious level. Once you are no longer addicted, the various reasons you drank in the first place are rendered ENTIRELY meaningless. Not only is it "paralysis by analysis" it is also fairly useless to examine why we drink once the craving has been extinguished by TSM, IMO. Sure, if you are feeling unsettled about life by factors that led you to drink in the first place, then they should be addressed, preferably in therapy. But to me, if the craving is gone and you aren't drinking, then the method that got you cured doesn't need to address the causal factors that led to heavy drinking, IMO. That's what mental health professionals are for, if need be.
