I'm curious: Can we take a survey to date?

1. How many members are registered on this board?

2: Among them, how many consider themselves cured?

3. What is the average time it takes to reach the cured stage?

4. How many members have cut down on their drinking or noticed a difference, ever so slight, even though they don't consider themselves cured yet?

(I started TSM June 11, am still indulging in the same 8-12 units of wine each evening but I do notice a slight decrease in interest--and a sense that the slow progress may my fault due lack of willpower--which I know is not part of the extinction process. However, I do notice that I quit sooner and switch to skimmed milk, ice tea or diet soda to finish off my evening which I didn't do before. Hence I consider myself perhaps a beginner in Group 4.)

There are 269 members registered on the board. About 65 of them have started a weekly progress thread. Of those who have started a weekly progress thread about ~20% have declared themselves cured. This includes people who have started a weekly progress thread and haven't checked in in months and have maybe only posted a few times at most.

We don't have enough data to even approximate an average. I'll indulge you and throw out a number: 150 days.

As for this: "How many members have cut down on their drinking or noticed a difference, ever so slight, even though they don't consider themselves cured yet?

I'd say about 90% of us.

Statistics are not easy to track for many reasons. I just looked under members and see we have 269 registered users. However, not all of these people are actually trying TSM; moreover, many people are trying it and do not post their results. The "cured" list speaks to the number of people who have declared themselves cured. I have read every post on this board, and my unscientific conclusion is that a tiny minority have not seen any reduction in numbers or cravings.

I cross posted with LoOP and agree with his estimates.

Hey Mikeone -- Those "statistics" would be misleading, for several reasons. People have signed up for a variety of reasons, so not everyone who signs up is doing TSM. Some post once or twice, then we never hear from them. Did they stop TSM, or did they find life on the board was not for them? We have no way of knowing. An "average" of anything usually includes outliers: those far above or far below the mean.

Far more significant to us here are the individual stories of the ups and downs as we make our way toward the cure. There is no "typical" of normal experience with TSM.

I know you have your eye on the calendar for November, so you should have plenty of time to see results before then.

Lo0p and 1-4-the road are putting together some graphs from the numbers people publish here so you might watch for that if it's numbers you're after. Take care.

These people are numerous. There are a lot of people just watching.

A lot of our newest members (and older ones) have TSM start dates in their profiles, yet haven't ever even posted.

Many thanks for the clarity of all your inputs. I'll follow the link LoOp posted--after dinner; or perhaps tomorrow as I don't pwi, should that occur. :)

Hi and hmmm,

Access to the link is denied using my Yahoo account. I have a personal Gmail account that I want to keep that way. Apparently since this is a Google Docs thingy, I suspect I can only go there with Gmail.

Can I create an alternate Gmail account using my Yahoo logon info and screename without compromising my primary one? Or, alternatively, can I access the link via my TSM registered Yahoo account?

Yes you can. You just have to give me your yahoo address. -E

Sure...

mikeone_numerouno@yahoo.com

Sorry about the rather overly exalted sounding address, but mikeone was already taken so I tacked on an appendage that reiterated the same thing in Spanish, and it worked. :)
