hi all!

i'm new to this but i saw this discussion and knew that it's tough to find a doctor to prescribe naltrexone. every bit helps! this is my primary care physician, when i went to her about my drinking problem she wanted to prescribe me anabuse, and i had to fight a little to show her that i wanted to follow the sinclair method. she finally prescribed naltrexone after a blood test. now i see her every month, where i get a monthly blood test to see if my liver functions are okay for her to prescribe another month's supply of naltrexone. i also keep a journal and we talk about my progress as well. she has a great bedside manner, and is very positive and has been super helpful to me through my journey. this is especially good for women who prefer women doctors. they also take many health insurance plans! she is located in the los angeles area, here is her information:

Dr. Janna Oganessian
13739 Riverside Drive, Unit B
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
818.385.0001
818.385.0081 (f)

good luck!

Primary Care Physicians are overly cautious, but perhaps rightfully out of fear of liability. Psychiatrists, on the other hand, will prescribe Naltrexone at the drop of a hat. It is a common rehab drug that they know well. I am glad you got your primary doc to prescribe, but it is a lot easier with a shrink... no liver test and a 3 month prescription is easy.

Hard to tell what's going on unless you've been drinking for many years at a high level. We have anecdotal evidence that if you start at higher consumption levels it may take longer. Also, if you've been drinking for decades, it may take the extinction process longer.

Others can elaborate better than I.
