Hello All,

I earnestly tried AA for 5 years, and never got more than 8 months of continuous sobriety. I was labeled a "chronic relapser" which is a fair assessment by AA's standards, I suppose. I met a lot of really great people in AA and a lot of really shitty people who were also sober for years. I'm not here to bash the program, it did give me some tools regarding self-awareness, and I wasn't turned off by the God thing. (I'm not a christian but I definitely believe in a creative intelligence or God, if you will).

This is my second time using the Sinclair Method. I was almost cured the first time around, but with the accrual of multiple AF days after a couple months into the method (due to my compliance with the golden rule), the side effects shot up so I started taking less than 50 mg, and sometimes not taking naltrexone at all. I'm re-committed to the method and this time, unlike last, I'll be counting my units in addition to following the golden rule (didn't chart units last time).

Going back to the full 50 mg today, I've been taking less due to side effects the last week and my drinking hasn't really slowed down. It's easy to forget the pain we all go through as alcoholics after we're sober a while. One of the reasons I think I relapsed so much is I couldn't summon the pain associated with my last bottom. The desire to drink won out every single time. I'm also committed to sharing with you and being a more active member of this board.

John

Hi jls, I am sorry that you relapsed. I am a firm believer that for me holding in mind the reason why I started TSM kept me on the straight and narrow.

I hope you find some relief soon and look forward to following your journey.

Thanks UKblonde :) I am happy to report that I am on my 3rd alcohol free day. The first 4 were ROUGH, averaging a pint of vodka and a 6 pack of 16 oz light beer (Miller) daily. I do not feel like I am going to drink today. But, if I do I will take the Naltrexone an hour before drinking. I suspect the next time I drink I won't drink near as much as I did earlier this week. By the way, in what part of the UK do you live?
