Hi everyone, I have been lurking for a bit and have been encouraged with your comments and support. I'm Tee. I am a 50 year old professional female who has been drinking nightly for years. Usually starts after supper and continues until I fall asleep, starts earlier on weekends when the kids aren't around. Ordered my Nal from Rivers and received it pretty quickly, and off I went.

Week 0: 35 drinks, 0AF
Week 1: 33 drinks, 0AF
Week 2: 22 drinks, 0AF
Week 3: 26 drinks, 0AF

So, there is progress in the amount of alcohol consumed, although I wouldn't say significantly. I have not had any side effects other than some crampy feeling in the stomach in the morning at the beginning. The 'buzz' of drinking is gone and I feel more in control and have been at social functions sipping on a drink for hours at a time (I usually drink too much due to social anxiety). So, so far so good I would say. I realise that the reason I still am drinking at night without the 'reward' is due to boredom and habit. I need to start finding more things to do at night and developing healthier habits. I have taken the Nal thinking I would drink and then didn't feel like it but did anyway to continue the extinction process. Would taking the Nal without drinking be problematic? I have read different opinions here and am unsure. I will try for my first AF tonight and will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks in advance for your support :)

The beauty of it is that Naltrexone only works if taken before drinking. It will but blunt other pleasures such as exercise, etc if taken otherwise. Taken without drinking it does not affect alcohol cravings at all.

Welcome, justme!

Drinking due to boredom and habit sure does sound familiar. It's no big deal to take the nal and then not feel like drinking -- as I understand it, it doesn't help but it doesn't hurt, just the waste of a pill. Naltrexone has been marketed to help with cravings, so presumably it does that for some people, and you might be one of them.

Keep it up. I look forward to being on the cured list with you.

Welcome Justme. I wish you much success and am happy for you that you are doing so well on the Nal. Keep posting and don't get discouraged if you have an upswing. There are lots of people on this board who can help you navigate through the rough waters. Please learn from me that you cannot ever drink without the Nal. Best wishes. Keek

Hi all,

Thanks for the words of support everyone. These last two weeks have seen a bit of an upswing, but there were also a few BBQs, parties involved which account for some of it. Maybe summer time was not the best time to start this :) The rat pressing the endorphin lever is happily at work as I notice craving chocolate and carbs now! I'm going to assume the plateau is part of the process and continue on with optimism.

Maybe a perfect time? You get to have fun as you take your medicine and work on your recovery?

Hello everyone,

Looking at my numbers it does look like this is making a difference, although there was a little blip here and there. I note that there are several opened but unfinished bottles in my fridge that I started but didn't find appealing and left. That has NEVER happened before.

Someone else mentioned about having non-alcoholic beer. I tried that with wine but it tasted awful. I ended up mixing it half and half and that wasn't bad, but really what's the point? I am surprised that I continue to want to have those two glasses of wine at night when it really doesn't do much. I have to say my sleep has improved over the last two months, I am able to go to sleep without being loaded and notice that if I have 3 or more drinks that my sleep is disrupted and I feel like crap.

I guess it is going in the right direction. My plan is not to quit drinking all together. My plan would be to get it within what some doctors consider safe drinking; 2 drinks on any one occasion with two AF days a week. We shall see.

It is great reading everyone's progress. Keep up the good work guys! We can do this :)

Wow! Nice job on a solid 2 months performance. You got this down and all things point to a sure recovery. I look forward to your future posts. I'm wondering if you will stop with a safe and normal drinking like you mentioned? Or will you go further? Regardless, it's all great and I am very happy for you. Peace
