"Wow" is all I can say. I am really excited after my first week on Naltima from alldaychemist (I know about both the honeymoon and placebo effects, but still). My total units for the week were 11 (usual is about 18-30) and I never drank more than three. Last night was especially great, as it was definitely a "trigger" night (Saturday night, going out with friends to a movie, no plans for sex so I don't care about ED, worked the previous two nights, etc...). Generally, I would have been quite intoxicated. I told myself I would drink all I want but that I was going to wait thirty minutes between the first vodka shot and the second. I took the first one hour after NAL and, again, it made me feel significantly buzzed but not really euphoric or crazy. I started playing around on my tablet and an hour went by before I thought, "Oh, I should go have that other vodka mini hidden out back." I have chugged 1,000s of minis over the past few years without a problem but, this time, I actually spit it out (a la Three's Company) and had a terrible taste in my mouth. About 20 minutes later, I had a beer and then dinner. I felt totallly sober. As it turned out, we actually had to pick up two other couples (one of whom brought their older daughter) to go to the movies. I was thinking, "Thank God I am sober!" because, normally, I would have been about .11 BAC (which, I know, is sort of wimpy for alot of people on this board). We went to see Les Miserables and it was one of the first times I've seen a movie sober in years. The movie blew me away as I didn't know the plot. We then went out for dessert, which I normally would have skipped in anticipation of my pre-bedtime drinks (I don't like to drink with anything in my stomach); my wife and I shared a brownie sundae and I had a nice, sober conversation with friends. Anyway, to an outsider, this might seem like "big deal," but for a troubled drinker like myself, it was an amazing week that has filled me with much hope. I've always thought the difference between me being a drinker or non-drinker is pretty subtle, as I tend to not have overwhelming cravings. Naltrexone seems to push me over the threshold to where my non-drinking side predominates. I'm probably going to try a AF day this week. My ultimate goal is probably to have about 4 drinks per week with none in secret (I've been a secret drinker for over 30 years). Oh, and I think my sex drive is going to be getting way higher because alcohol definitely numbed it. That's not necessarily a good thing as my wife is a once-a-weeker and I work with lots of hot women.
