Well, after all these weeks, I finally got to try Naltrexone. I started with 25 mg and waited exactly one hour before drinking. After about 20 minutes of taking the pill, I definitely felt a bit of mild facial flushing and tingling and a wee bit "spacey." I then downed about 2 shots of rum straight and am not sure how to articulate the experience. It seemed almost like a synergistic effect (as though I'd taken alcohol with some barbituates or something, though I've never tried barbituates). Anyway, I was quite spacey at that point (I could have really chilled to some Pink Floyd). When I went back for round two (with half of my half pint left), I did one chug and then just poured the last bit out. I went to bed 100% sober a few hours later. Overall, I'd say I definitely felt something, which is supposedly a good omen. My prediction is that TSM is going to require some self-control / will-power to go along with the pill, but I'm game for it.

Most of us find that to be the case...Nal knocks down the effect of alcohol to where we are no longer at the mercy of it, but then we have to use some effort to break the habit of drinking, and all the habits and behaviors associated w/ it. Whether that being forcing yourself to develop new hobbies or activities to fill the former drinking hours, or finding other ways to relieve anxiety, if that was a role that alcohol was playing.
