Hey Everyone!

It's about time I start my thread. I've been using the nal for like 10 days now and I've got my spreadsheet up and running charting my intake.
The first couple of days were really rough, I threw up quite a bit but the nausea went away very quickly. So far everything's going as planned I guess. I don't notice a difference really. I'm 28 and I've been an alcoholic since I was about 20. My typical drinking pattern is I have a hangover in the morning, go to work, come home and the polish about 9 units as quickly as i can and then pass out. It's a miserable existence really, my fiancee just left me because of alcohol.
I really have no idea where I'd be if I hadn't stumbled across TSM and this board. Actually I do have an idea, but there's no reason to dwell on that. I kinda feel like my life has just been saved.

We'll see I guess. Good luck to us all :) -Evan

Hey Evan, glad to meet you here.

I just started yesterday, so I'm pretty close behind you, I'll be following your progress with great interest :)

I've lost a lot to alcohol too, and could lose a lot more yet, so I really relate to what you said.

All the best to you - a happier future eh?!

Hey Evan --

I truly feel your life has just been turned completely upside down -- for the better. You'll probably see that you don't act as foolish on naltrexone when you drink. And if you follow the rule, taking nal one hour before drinking, you will be cured. I'm confident of it! Yes, we've all lost a lot from drinking and there is no need to dwell on it. We need to dwell on how much we'll get back when we are cured!

Welcome!

Nick

Yeah, you can say that again. I can't really describe the complete 180 my life has taken in the last 2 months. I have dreams about my future now, a month ago they were all nightmares.

Thanks guys.

Looks like you are off to a good start Loop and glad the nasty side effects went away quickly.

Your life is going to improve so much in the next few months. It's only after you get the beast off your back that you realize how bad life had become.

I'm screaming for help here. These are my first 12 days on TSM:
Image

Last night/this morning is more than I've ever drank in 24 hrs that I can remember recently. I miss my girl so much and it hurts so bad. l refuse to call her because it would damage my chances with her in the future. She is familiar with TSM and on board but she has already left me and is with someone else, which is not serious. She'll come back to me if I'm cured and alive but it's going to be a matter of years I think. I just think it's near impossible that she'll find what we have with someone else. AL was the ONLY reason she left me, but she had to..

I feel like I'm approaching physiological dependency (ie withdrawals and such) and I've never suffered from acute withdrawals before. I had to drink 2 beers to stop from shaking yesterday and that's never really happened to me before.

wtf is going on?

edit: there's no honeymoon period here 7/29 is my first day on TSM

loop,

it is very difficult to say something about a few days as it is the case with you.
Before TSM can show serious effect you have to give it at least 3-4 months or longer.

As someone who only had their first withdrawals fairly recently, I know the horrifying feeling. Hang in there.

Not everyone has the "honeymoon" and there is no standard TSM progression -- everyone is different. You are understandably placing all of your hopes on TSM to recover your love. Could there be a bigger trigger than that? I'm no psychologist, but it would seem that the intensity you have to recover your love is reflected in your spiked drinking. Maybe you are thinking subconsciously (or even consciously), "If I drink like a fish, I'll speed up extinction and get my love back." Just a wild guess on my part.

No one knows for certain why we drink ourselves into the ground at any given time. This would be a good time to "not over-think it." Just take the nal one hour before you drink and drink as you usually do. Extinction takes several months before it starts so you'll have to be patient. And be confident that TSM works. Read the threads of the cured on this board. Almost all of them were just as desperate as you are right now before finding their way out of the abyss. It will happen for you too.

Hang in there friend, we are all rooting for you here.

Nick

Hi LoOp,

I have struggled for a very long time, and I am not "cured" but I have definitely seen very positive changes.

So, you have begun your course, stick to it, it does take determination.

We are here for you, and we are so amazingly supportive of each other, welcome to our struggle, and join us on the path to our future!
:D
