WTE, IANA doctor, but that partial eye blackout sounds like some of the migraines that my wife used to have every year or so. The doctor explained it as a spasming of the blood vessels that feed that part of the brain. I could see that happening as part of alcohol withdrawal, but I'm having a hard time imagining how naltrexone could be causing it.

Congrats on Week ONE :D - I just know you'll do well!

The only thing that reminds me of the "blackout of the eye" symptoms, is the aura my daughter experiences just prior to getting a migraine. Thank God she seems to have outgrown them for the most part. Sounds very frightening to me when vision is obstructed, but hopefully this will be temporary and/or mabye not even realted to Nal/TSM.

As long as you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, you'll get there!

My sister used to get 'blindness migraines,' where all or part of her sight disappeared for periods of time. Scared the crap out of her, but turned out harmless.

Still, please go see a doctor to rule out things like stroke or seizure disorder. Just to be on the safe side. . .

Weird & scary about your partial blindness! Hope it is gone now. Do you find yourself attributing every bodily malfunction a direct result of alcohol?? I sometimes do. My eyes are bloodshot alot and I think I became addicted to Visine. Decided to stop and just use eyewash...2 weeks now and much better. I think my upper eyelids were swelling w/ overuse of Visine. Now they aren't so puffy -

I have elevated blood pressure & an irregular heartbeat in the last few years. I worry - and look forward to all that going away should my drinking become more normal. I hope you are back to normal now - and so glad your transition to 50 mgs was good!

Riding the ride!

OMG can I identify with everything you say! I had a brief UTI a couple of weeks back, and imagined it was kidney/bladder cancer related to liver damage. . .I don't dare get my blood pressure checked. . .I have also been doing lots of Visine. My eyes are naturally dry, and working on the computer all day doesn't help. Maybe I need to follow your course and just do simple eye washes.

It's uncanny how alike all our stories seem to be! Makes me feel less alone.

PLEASE see a physician ASAP! It may be a retinal detachment in progress.

Yikes, Eddie - that's enough to scare a person to death! Probably a worst case scenario, but do go to the Dr.! And rethink telling about the Nal...I know the issues involved, but since it happened concurrently, it may be wise to disclose what you're on just in case they are somehow related. Gawd - I would find that sooooooo annoying as I'm sure you do!

I'm glad you are feeling & seeing little changes. I'm going to try again & keep trying. The last couple of nights were great: Thurs w/ girlfriends for dinner, yesterday off so golf & dinner w/ my FriendsWithBenefits (FWB) guy who adores me but I'm totally ehhhhhhh about him...but I just had a TON to drink both nights (didn't drive)...even still, I am going thru a kind-of funk/blue spell...feeling sorry for myself about everything. This too shall pass, I know. I just want this NAL thing to be automatic! I want this to be a magic pill! I feel like I am spiraling downward sometimes, ya know?! Or I did - I'm just hoping this works. It is such a bizarre method we are trusting.

Makes me feel better we are all in the same boat, but having a personal gloomy period. Keep us posted on the eye thing & lucky you to need a few Xtra pounds...what kind of candy bar?? LOL I'd go with Butterfinger!

What a relief! I'm so glad it was not something major. I looked up the condition and it is common as we age. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posterior_vitreous_detachment
I was so focused (please excuse the pun) on your eye problem, I haven't been paying a lot of attention to your progress, especially with the difficult holiday time. That will change right now.

Hi WTE,

You're doing great! I also still experience fatigue after taking Nal, but it isn't unberable, and seems to have subsided a bit. I've kind of rediscovered Bloody Marys lately  I've found that if I just drink the Clamato, and PRETEND vodka is in there, it kind of satisfies the craving. Then again, I have to be sure I don't have vodka available, or I'll cave.

WTE - I think the fatique starting going away for me around week 5, I don't feel anything now. (I still get more tired when I drink then before, but it's manageable...and the napping is gone).

You are doing great - keep at it! The patience part is a bummer, but I just try to focus on other things and let it happen behind the scenes.

Congrats on Week 3 :D
