These last two weeks have been wonderful (knock on wood. seriously.) Even though his drinking was at an alarming amount, he has been so normal. No trying to start arguments over nothing. No stumbling around the house. No freaky mood swings.

The first few days, he said he felt like it only took two cans and he was already drunk. That side effect didn't last long. I can't think of any other side effect being mentioned by him (started at 25 mg, then 50 mg on day 3).

This week has been busy away from the house in the evenings. He drank 4 big cans (5 units) when we got home and seemed to stop without the struggle he would have had before. Normally he would try to drink until he felt like sleeping. But Monday he went on to bed and tossed and turned most of the night.

I went on a search for "Drank" yesterday (or "drag-ass in a can" as joe12pack calls it). But no luck in our small rural town or in the next town. So I fixed some hot cammomile tea (doesn't taste that good, have to add another better tasting tea with it and a little sugar); he took a melatonin with it (over-the-counter natural sleep aid) and we listened to snooze music (Norah Jones, India Arie, etc.) He said it didn't take him long to fall asleep. I noticed he was still kind of twitchy in his sleep.

Maybe we've hit a honeymoon or maybe the big drop in numbers was the result of being too busy away from the house (like I said, normally being gone wouldn't matter, he would just stay up even later to drink alot). Tonight we'll all be home so it'll be interesting to see which way it goes. I'm definitely dragging him out for a walk before supper.

How wonderful for you to see results!! Yes, this could be the honeymoon phase but that's ok - take what you can get and enjoy!!

I've been on this board since October 09 and I'm simply amazed at the new folks who turn up. It's been very instructive to read the different histories, struggles, hopes etc. and wonderful to read the success stories! Even those who struggle and don't easily make gains are touched by their contact with others who really understand them. And the stories of those who have great success is truly inspiring.

tbloom, you are saving your husband's life - God bless you!!

Yes, I agree -- great job. I had a lot of sleep disturbance too on naltrexone but it subsided after a few months. The good news is that even if this is the honeymoon, the better behavior and increased clarity will only get better while drinking on naltrexone. Congratulations on finding your way out of Hell.

My best,

Nick

I concur! You are the best wife a drunk could ever have. so patient. I wish mine had been that way. maybe if we had discovered TSM and not been railroaded into AA....oh well al I know is this site is wonderful and I am so excited to see this working for me and others. I think I have hit a honeymoon too. the last 2 nights I have had 2 beers each night. unheard of for me. and last night I cracked a second one late just "because". I was going to go to bed but got on the laptop and went to soberrecovery.com where I was attacked for saying Nal+AL=cure. and since I was still up I thought drinking one more would help take advantage of the NAL in my system.

Thanks for sharing your progress. I really hope it works out for all of us! this is so exciting! :D

The way this weekend went, I thought this would turn out to be the worst week yet. Saturday was the highest number of units I've seen. And he was back to acting drunk (happy drunk on Saturday, pissed off drunk on Sunday because I refuse to make the drive for a case of beer two days in a row).

I'm glad we've been writing it down though because, overall, it was the lowest in units. I feel a little more optimistic now that I've added it up. And it's not just me; he looks over the list and helps keep count.

Ugh. This week presents a problem. Our first order was exactly 30 pills with the plan to re-order on my once-a-month paydays (I should have ordered more so we'd have some "wiggle room"). Alldaychemist's third party that processes mastercard seems to have changed the way they do things; it seemed like they were placing a hold on my card, I'm not sure what the deal was. So I decided to wire transfer which added another several days to shipment date plus the $30 to wire money. These details could go on and on but it boils down to having to cut his last 6 pills in half to try and "maintain" until the next order is received. And hoping we don't run our of half pills.

His doc has been out for a week but we have an appointment to see her on her first day back (Monday). I hope and pray she will be interested and agreeable to prescribing this drug.

In the meantime that 25mg is having no positive effect on his behavior while intoxicated. In these last 3 weeks of peace and harmony, I think I forgot all my coping skills. Or at least forgot to employ them when needed.

Hopefully, the 25mg is keeping us from loosing any progress. Like "holding our spot" till the regular dose can be resumed. What do you think?

I don't know about how the 25 milligrams will work, but I would order a S#$tload so you don't have to worry about it. but luckily I have a doctor who is on board with me for TSM. GOLDENRULEGOLDENRULE I say. It's so easy to do. I hope the 25 tides him over. are the units up higher?

The units are about the same for weekdays. It's the attitude that's driving me nuts; and part of that is my attitude, not feeling very tolerant this week.
