Hi, I haven't posted in a long time, partly as I was getting discouraged reading about TSM lack of effectiveness for wine drinkers, so I just got on with taking the Nal before drinking.
Anyway, things are going fine, on my 7th week now and my drinking has dropped pretty consistently by a third or sometimes more which is great as I can function well at work etc without all the worry of being over the limit in the mornings. The first week I took 25mg after trying 50 on the third night but had to reduce due to the side effects which were transient nausea and mild headaches. I still have the mild headaches at times but the nausea passed after the first week.
An interesting side effect which is probably a good one is I cannot eat as much now as I did before, it's like my stomach just feels full part way through dinner and I can't face anymore

I am hoping that my drinking does not spike now, though I do have occasional nights when I drink more, ie a bottle and half of wine but they are few and far between thankfully.
I have had no AF days so far but I suppose it's early days yet.

I will try and keep this updated from now on as best I can.

Best wishes to all

scot98 you're still early in with TSM so please don't get discouraged, patience is the name of the game here. I've been doing this for over 6 months and just this week had two AF days since I began, so please remember you're not in a race and time will bring the change. I agree with you on the food, I also can't eat much but the sad thing is I haven't lost much weight because of all the calories in AL, oh well that too will change.

Keep posting, smile, :D you're moving forward.

Thanks Corkit :) Yeah I realise patience is the name of the game with this method,I just need to stick with it. Well done you on your AF days, hopefully many more to come for you, and in time myself and others :)

I agree with you about the lack of weight loss despite a lower food intake, I think it's the calories in AL that keeps the weight on, hey it could be worse! NAL could easily have had the opposite effect  Thankfully that isn't the case.

Cheers

Hey Scot. You are still early but meeting with success which bodes well for you. :D

Patience on your non-linear journey is a must.

Take care,

Nick

Thanks Nick, Yeah i am going to stick with this, it would be crazy to drop out without giving it at least 6 months and I am prepared to go on longer if need be. I realise it doesn't work for everyone but keeping my fingers crossed that I will be fortunate......time will tell!

best wishes

Hi,

Well my 9th week on NAL has been the highest so far at 113 units, I knew it would likely go up at some point but hoping it's not going to continue to increase back to pre TSM levels, time will tell! I had a night out which is rare for me and managed to drink way more than I have been since starting this treatment, was a great night though, so hell with it!
I do get despondent at times but no way am I going to give up at this stage. Cravings are still way lower which is great and I am no longer rushing home at wine o'clock to have my first glass.

Best to all :)

Hi scot, I also am a wine drinker and was losing heart when I was reading the lack of success for us wine drinkers. I am also pretty much on the same time scale as you, I am now commencing my 10th week. Best of luck and I will be keeping an eye on your progress

Good for you Scot98 that you are prepared to stick this out for the longer haul. I am "cured" but have had a few bumps in the road - like some others I've had days when I craved - so I drank - but with the Nal, and was always in control even though I would have preferred not to drink...it truly is a funny thing. One day total control, then something hits the brain and I crave. I've had quite a bout of depression the past few weeks so that may account for the ole hand reaching out for the teat...but over all this is a wonderful wonderful drug.

So think about what your personal goal is - once you hit that, whether it's total abstinence, or having a few now and again, or even one or two per night - you will know when you get there for real.

Hi Chocolate, Thanks and the best of luck to you too. I see no reason why NAL will not have the same effect on us wine drinkers, after all the problem we all share is an addiction to ethanol, regardless of type of beverage, just my opinion really.
I have been amazed how NAL has helped me so far and not just with a reduction in drinking, my mood has been pretty stable, restless legs at night have vanished and my cravings have gone way down, all positive really :)

Sorry to hear you have had a few weeks on a downer BGH, depression is partly to blame for my addiction due to self medication in my twenties. It's amazing that you have this curse under control now, even if you have the odd days craving. It must be a wonderful feeling that AL can no longer rule your life! Actually maybe more like a miracle!
Best wishes to all.

Scot

Not sure what I did wrong but my message ended up in the middle of BGH's quote! :?

Hi,
Week 10 has proved to another fairly high number of units at 107. I am finding it easier to drink more now than a few weeks ago, it just seems to flow more easily which is a pity though it is still down by a 1/4 so still positive. I am really hoping it doesn't continue to increase as the hangovers are starting to get bad again particularly if i go over a bottle and a half of red wine.
I have drank fairly heavily for the past 15 years so I am not expecting a quick result. The first 9 weeks on NAL were great though, so a bit disappointed that the units have crept up.

Best to all
