Well its the end of week 2 and i have decided to post my progress.
I had some nasty side effects initially- posted elsewhere. Was incredibly tired, nauseous and tearful. I tend generally to drink from thursday to sunday and usually at night. I decided not to change my drinking habits to go for greater extinction as i've noticed some people on the site have mentioned. The first week i broke my rule and drank on a wed because the Nal had arrived by post that day. Not good i felt dreadful at work next day. Had a couple of nights out where i really noticed the lack of initial buzz and was aware of drinking more slowly than usual. - for once i wasn't anxiously watching the hostess hoping she would refill more quickly! Still managed 55 UK units the first week. But did notice i had no interest in snacking while drinking at home and actually went to bed without a nightcap when i came in from a night out.
This week my intake has dropped to 37 UK units- i guess i must be experiencing the honeymoon some others have spoken of. One thing i have noticed is that my 'best' nights have been when i have been drinking out socially whereas i haven't noticed much difference in my home alone drinking which is the most concerning for me not sure why this is - maybe the triggers are more powerful. i've also noticed a bit of a decrease in my appetite and have lost a couple of pounds.
I think however i'm becoming addicted to this site! really enjoying reading some of the posts.
Pre Nal : not sure probably 60ish average.
Week 1- 55 UK units
Week 2- 37 UK units

Hi Soulby, thanks for updating us on your progress. I understand you're pretty alone in this, so applaud you for making the effort. Don't worry about getting addicted to this site - it happens to all of us, but I hope the naltrexone will eventually extinguish the addiction. :D

Hi SoulBy - you are doing great - I hope the progress continues and is not a honeymoon, but you never know...

My extinction is the exact opposite of yours - my home alone drinking is well on it's way to being under control but I still have issues going out (probably because I'm mostly home alone...I need to get a social life!). Keep at it and don't worry about changing your patterns. I think that just encourages us to increase our levels if we start to drink daily when we didn't before, which ends up being really discouraging.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Happy!
I also need to get a social life!
Well week 3 progress was a little better. My pattern is to drink on thur when i finish work for the week. i didnt this week as i had a dental appointment next day. Its only cos of reading the site i realised that i needed to be careful in case the nal blocked the pain relief. Drank a lot on fri- 14 units (UK) and inteneded to only drink sat but i was feeling pretty sorry for myself as my first born headed off on a round the world trip on sun. so deliberately started drinking- but whereas in the past i would have worked my way through at least a bottle and a half of wine and passed out on the sofa. But despite my best efforts i didnt even manage to finish the first bottle.
So
Week 1 55
Week 2 37
Week 3 31.5

PS How do you compare US and UK units. I am using UK units and when i look at posts i find it hard to relate to my experience.

Good work SBTS

A UK unit is defined as 10ml of pure alcohol. A US 'standard drink' is 0.6 fluid ounces = 17.7ml of alcohol, so more or less 75% larger

4/7 would be a reasonable conversion factor - e.g. 40 US 'units' would be 70 UK units.

A typical white wine would be about 12-13% alchol and a bottle is 750ml, so a full bottle is going to be around 9-10 units in UK terms - more like 5-6 in US terms

Congrats SBTS, we are all watching you and rooting for you! Don't be surprised if your numbers go back up. As SR told me, your progress will not be "LINEAR." But you (and everyone else) are on the right path!

SoulBy,

Sorry about your first born, but pat yourself on the back for not drowning your sorrow to the point of passing out - good job! :D
