Units are down again - and some of those days I really did not want to drink - but after the first one it was easier to have another - how stupid is that?

mum is back in the hospital though - which is a worry - but although I did have a drink yesterday after I heard that (I hadn't actually wanted one and had thought about having an AF day) I only had the original amount that I thought I would have which was three ! Actually only 2 1/2 as I didn't finish the 3rd one!

Hugs, Maggie x

Given the stress you have been under, you are doing incredibly well! You had what would have been a great "excuse" to overindulge, and your numbers are still going down. Inspiring!

Maggie I am so happy to see your consumption halved in 9 weeks! I'm sorry to hear about your mom and even in this time of high stress you are turning less to alcohol which is wonderful. Keep up the good work!!

I am not sure if anyone will see this - BUT my drink of choice is Murphy's - similar to Guinness but smoother and cheaper ! For the past two days, it has tasted really off - I had hubs taste it to see if it was me or the Murphy's - he said it tastes fine - I think it is awful !! I am going to go onto Guinness as that still tastes fine - can anyone please shed any light on this for me ?

I think this is quite common. as the Nal takes effect, we start to taste things for what they are, rather than what they are, tinged with the anticipated pleasure they're going to give - ie drunkeness

the flavour of a lot of alcoholic drinks tends to be an acquired taste - dry wine, bitter beer, etc. - probably a taste we wouldn't bother to acquire without the incentive of them containing AL!

I suspect that your brain will learn to taste Guiness for what it it - rather a bitter drink - before too long, as it seems to have done with Murphy's already, so make the most of it whilst you can ;)

on the plus side, it's a strong sign that Nal is working for you :)

Thank you Badger - I am feeling really down today - and your post helped me .....I am way up on my units from last week - plus the Murphy's tasting awful does not help - but if this is what takes then I will deal with it. Way too much going on as usual in my life - I like things to be same as usual .... LOL. I am trying to think the taste stuff is a good thing .......but with the mood I am in, am wishing the AL would help - which it doesn't ..... plus I am NOT sleeping - which I usually do not have trouble with. Tonight I am going to take two Benadryl - usually one zonks me for hours but I really need to sleep for more than an hour !!!!!

I can and will deal with this - thanks, Hugs, Maggie xxxx

I sometimes think TSM should come with a health warning - "be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it"

hang in there, we're not rats so it's going to be a bit of a lumpy journey, rats don't have to deal with estate agents ;)

take care

This does seem to be a side effect of TSM I'm afraid.

I always drank for effect, and TSM killed any taste enjoyment.

Reading Alan Carrs book about alcohol put things into perspective for me, most people don't like alcohol when they first drink it. Which isn't surprising because it is a bitter poisonous liquid.

If I imagine the taste of wine, cider (my other favourite tipple), beer, anything, I feel sick.

TSM may do this to you. For some people it's not a fair tradeoff, all depends. For me alcohol had caused me so many problems I was fine with losing the taste!

You might not be the same.
