Deena congrats on the AF day
Hikergirl - glad you made it through without a nal over -
Ocean - perfectly said. I feel the same way. I am trying very hard not to beat myself up when I out drink the nal - and I am a lot closer to being "normal" since taking nal. In the past I would say I am just gonna have a beer before dinner and end up passed out much later in the night. That has not happened once since on nal. I have gone to parties and lost control but I am even making progress on that. Instead of being disappointed on the nights I drink so much - I am elated that I have gotten control over my day to day drinking.

I think that is so important. Focus on the positive!

I agree. I can still be stupid and drink too much, but I have MUCH more control over my day to day drinking. when I DO overdo it, it's never to blackout stage or having embarrassing things happen.

again, embrace the good stuff!

I have not had 6 drinks in one night since I started on Nal - I usually have 4, sometimes get to 5 - and last night was so tempted to reach for that 6th one - but held off for while then poured it and just had half - pre Nal I could not have done that - I know this week my numbers are up - but at least I did not get to the 6 mark !!

Hugs, Maggie x

But you had half! Wasn't there a time when you would never have left half? Small steps count as victories.

You are so right Deena - I would never have left half of a drink previously ! On your other posting where you talked about quitting Nal and I was saying how low I was feeling, I have just walked the dogs and did a lot of thinking. I am going to go to half a tab for a week and see how I feel - but I am refusing to give up - I am going to start quilting or something as that is very meditative for me. Hopefully that will help with the feelings. I am feeling much better than yesterday and better than before I walked ..... this is going to work for me and I am not giving up ! There IS NO ALTERNATIVE !!!!

Many Hugs to you, Maggie x

Good for you, Maggie! I think cutting back on the Nal is absolutely the way to go. You can always go back up again if you don't feel any better and the drinking escalates. It sounds to me like you reach for alcohol when stressed, as I do. It is a habit. Maybe being more mindful will help you control it a bit more. I honestly feel that the reduction I have had in drinking has been totally due to tracking my drinks and thinking about each drink more. I don't usually "forget" about having another drink like a lot of people do.

Maggie, I went to 25 mg for about 5 days. Over the weekend (3 day weekend for me because of Rosh Hashanah), I did not do well. So going back up. Just wanted you to know. xoxo Newlife
