So Virgil. Why did you pick that name and how are you doing on the Sinclair method? Virgil sounds so biblical. ?

Thanks.ART. Duh, I just went back and checked where you told me to and discovered why he chose the name. I studied latin as well in university and I did lots of work in Greek mythology. Fun stuff. Can't quote some of that stuff now. I would have to get out my books for that. Lol.

Potato,

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner. Fortunately, ART answered the first half of your question - thanks, ART. As for the second half, thanks for asking. I've almost completed two months on the Sinclair Method so I'm only half way to (hopefully) seeing some results. My alcohol intake has been pretty steady at approximately 100 UK units per week for several weeks. I'm also not a quitter and I shall persevere.

All the best,

V.

That's right Virgil , it can be long , very long . You sound set for the journey .
I hope you don't crave too much or do you not notice it by drinking regularly perhaps ?.
we're fellow countrymen , but I'm rather out of touch as i left in 86 and don't go back for years on end . If I get nostalgic it's more for the time not the place . I remember the uk of the seventies and before as a kid , do you remember all that ?

Hi Virgil,

Keep up with the good attitude - it will pay off in the long run. It sure takes determination sometimes, but compared to the battle we've already faced, this is easy! When I think about how I continued to drink all those years despite the horrible hangovers, blackouts, pain and suffering to my loved ones, I'm amazed I even survived. Whatever strength (however destructive) that got us through that insanity can now be applied to something positive. Victory is just around the corner! :D

Hi Elfern,

I hardly ever have cravings because my 'routine' hasn't changed. On weekdays, I don't drink before 6:00pm but then I have several drinks until such time as I go to bed. At weekends, my 6:00pm 'watershed' becomes more like 3:00pm.

Regarding the UK in the 70s, I certainly remember it well - indeed, I also have fond memories going back to 1965. Beatles and beatniks. I particularly love the music of the late 60s and 70s - The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Genesis, ELP, Barclay James Harvest, Led Zep, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Procol Harum and the list goes on! Those were the days.

Hi Kris,

Many thanks for your continuing words of encouragement. I think the main reason why I have developed such staying power is because I have been battling my demons for so many years that a few months on TSM pales into insignificance. Gotta keep things in perspective.

Hi Folks,

I've just completed Week 8 - so, I'm just two months into the programme. That probably puts me at the half-way mark. What I find remarkable is that my alcohol consumption is pretty constant at 100 UK units per week; it hardly varies. Anyone could be forgiven for thinking that I purposely aim for this figure. It's almost as if I've set the 'thermostat' on 100 and forgotten to adjust it! Something in my brain seems to be self-regulating my alcohol intake to this magical figure. Perhaps I should change my User Name to '100' or 'Mr 100'! No, just kidding.

I'm still having unpleasant dreams but their intensity and frequency appears to have been less during the last week.
