Your experience is identical to mine -- check out my progress reports. I've said it over and over again: you continue to drink on naltrexone -- even at close to pre=TSM numbers for a while -- but it's entirely different. No blackouts or drunken, embarrassing behavior. You have control and clarity. And you are right, it only gets better and better.

What would we do without these doctors screwing things up for us? Unbelievable. You are on your way to the cure until your doctor says no more nal. Get it online if you must but you are clearly on your way to being cured. No doubt about it, so long as you take the nal before you drink, every time you drink.

You will also find that you probably will need to address the issues that drove you to drink, but that it's entirely separate from TSM. TSM will stop the drinking -- it's up to you to figure out the other issues that caused you to booze in the first place in order to live a fuller life.

I'm so excited to read all this--I ordered naltrexone from River Pharmacy yesterday, and can't wait to get started. I'm apprehensive about the hangover effects I've read about, but I guess it will be worth it in the long run. DOMD, I've loved reading your play-by-play progress...please keep us posted. It's really inspiring for me.

Glad you are getting started.

I wouldn't get to concerned about the worse hangovers on Nal. Not everyone has them. My hangovers were worse and I'm kinda glad they were. I think they helped enforce the fact that I really don't like to drink. Bad hangovers also helped me to try to sting together multiple AF days.

nice progress DOMD

however don't beat yourself up if you backslide - the experience of many of us here is that the journey is not even - its a bumpy road at times. Don't be in too much of a hurry - the end point is worth the journey.

same advice from me too, DOMD, take it easy and realize that your progress will continue long after you call it. That elusive control you want once you begin to drink may be a bit longer in coming than the end of the craving. But as I can see in myself it's up and down. Since I've been on naltrexone I have always been able to stop because I get terrible migraines if I go too far, and believe me that's a very nice little stopper!

Most of us have that two pronged problem: the uncontrollable craving, and not being able to stop once started. Naltrexone helps with both but not in a linear fashion as nick keeps reminding us.

You really have made great strides - good for you.

Thanks for the posts DOMD. you are doing a good job of keeping statistics :geek: and letting us see your progress. I just started a week ago and you have been an inspiration. I'll be putting my progress up in my thread in a similar fashion and could use any support you got. I'm in this thing for the long haul. :P Glad to have this forum to read so i'm not just flying alone.

DOMD, so happy for you. Your experience is just like mine except on an expedited schedule. Probably because we are similar binge drinkers but I have 15 or so years on you so it took longer for me. As BGH correctly noted, you will easily have ten AF days and declare yourself cured. And then on of your buddies (or dad) will roll around and you'll get ****-faced. Don't worry about it: "normal" drinkers get wasted from time to time. I look forward to adding your name to our list.

My best,

Nick
