I'm in the great state of New York! Please don't judge us all by our gubanatorial candidate Carl Paladino :o

I'm glad I saw that quote too. Reminds me that I don't have to get drunk, and I haven't gotten sloshed in a long time

Yeah, I've decided I'm gonna stop drinking during the week. Keep missing lectures so I'm just gonna have to white knuckle it, extinction process will be slowed but I can't continue to miss lectures or I'll definately fail.

Had two alcohol free days on Wednesday and Thursday...it was nice to catch up on my work...nice probably isnt the best word, essential would be more like it. I went out drinking last night since I figured I better get my extinction sessions done at the weekend so that I make it less likely that I will drink during the week. Went well; I was really up for drinking before hand, but I took it surprisingly moderately- I had 2 pints (4U) an Irish CarBomb (2U), a beer/tequila mix drink (1.6U), a VK (1.3U) and I think another pint (2U). The last pint was a real struggle, and I only drank it cos my flatmate encouraged it- total for the night: 11U. This is the first time since week 6 I recorded my intake for a session. From weeks 1-6 my average intake/session was 15.5 U and my average max. per session per week was 18.3 U. I'm on week 13 now, drinking less times per week and a lower amount (11U) per session. As far as I'm concerned, this basically isn't a problem for me anymore- but I definately feel like I'm on the verge of "the cure" in the objective sense.

Another good week. See graph. Averages per session is down, total consumption is slightly up but not too worried. The reason theres data missing inbetween is that I hadn't been recording my units. The horizontal axis is in weeks btw.

Anyway, even though my consumtion and harm is way down, my drinking is still causing significant disruption to my school work. So I have a plan, I'm thinking of quitting drinking until after my exams at xmas. It will halt the extinction process obviously, but I def needa pass my exams. Also, if i continued drinking I would prob be cured by xmas, and in a strange way, I want to conserve some of my alcoholism for then  I like a drink at xmas.

If I have serious cravings between now and then, I will drink because the benefit would outweigh the cost, but casual drinking for now is out.

Zero_nine,

That is an awesome goal! There is no deadline for TSM. You won't lose your progress anyways especially if u pick up when the cravings hit hard. Aren't those the most important times for TSM anyways. Keep in touch and let us know how it goes. BTDT

Thanks for the replies guys! I will keep you posted on how I get on...I'm actually quite looking forward to focussing on my work for a change and not curing myself. If I drink, I will certainly let you know. I'm keen to find out how bad my cravings will get due to ADE.

Til next sign,

ZN

For the past two days I've been trying a new approach. I've been categorising my days into need to drink/don't need to drink. I felt it was necessary because I keep drinking at inappropriate times and with inappropriate amounts. So if need to drink, I'll drink, and if I feel I can avoid it I will.

Obviously, my attempt to stay abstinent to Christmas was a complete failure. Then again, I am an alcoholic.
