Hi EL, you're doing great. I agree that shots are best avoided if possible because they are trouble for everyone let alone us :D In Aust there are many bars now that refuse to serve any shots for that reason. As for having a big night, I think that we'd all be guilty of that if we were put in a similair situation. Try not to feel too guilty about it, I think (for me at least), guilt over a drinking episode has lead to further drinking to extinguish the guilt- so it can be a self fulfilling prophecy. Good on you for being so active and encouraging on this site. Hope you have a great week.

TSM should be declared a shot free zone!

I agree! and the irony is that I actually hate taking shots, and am really bad at it (it usually takes me 2-3 swigs at it and I almost vomit on myself !!

weekly recap time: 14 units. YAY!!! This is about where I want to be - no real hangovers this week (was quite tired after Friday night, but that's because the bf and I stayed up watching rugby until 5:30 am!). Had a moderate mid-week happy hour, went to a party on Saturday night had only TWO drinks, and had a nice relaxing drink before dinner on Sunday. The only time I really felt any pull whatsoever was on Wednesday night, when I could easily have had a 5th drink instead of stopping at 4 (my bf wanted to go home). This does highlight something I've noticed for a long time - I am always most excited about drinking (and most unable to stop) when it is not a convenient time. For instance, I've got the happy hour on wednesday vs the party on saturday - even though I have to get up and work on Thursday morning, whereas Sunday is free, I'm mucu more likely to overdrink on Wednesday night. I'm not quite sure what that is about. Sometimes I think it is some sort of anxiety about designated "fun" nights that stresses me out, so I am less able to let loose, whereas an impromptu weekday get together has no expectations, so I feel freer? I don't know. But anyways, a good week.
I am expecting next week to be off the charts, honestly, as I am going to Oregon for my brother's wedding. And the night before the wedding we've got wine tasting, cocktails and dinner, and rugby watching :/ It's going to be a boozy weekend. I'm not that worried about making an ass of myself - I'm more worried about my stamina! Now that I take nal, I don't get the manic energy from drinking so much, and sometimes it just makes me EXTRAORDINARILY sleepy. Hopefully adrenaline will pave the way...

you are really in a great place! weddings are just boozy events - you will be in control - and i bet there will be a few people who aren't. it's a nice feeling to be pretty certain it won't be you! have fun.

also, thanks for your support. i really would love to be where you are with units and am looking at you as my unit - mentor! that is not to add any pressure to you. we are all on our own journeys with tsm and i get that :) i'm just trying to get some mini-goals going.

PP, that's gotta be one of the most amazing things anyone has ever said to me. A couple years ago, I would not have been able to imagine that I could be a "unit-mentor" for ANYONE, unless we were talking about the world boozing olympics ;) I was drinking about 1/2 a (750ml) bottle of bourbon a night those days, minimum. EEP. Sometimes a whole bottle. I'm so glad I found TSM and all of you guys. I'm not out of the woods yet, I can feel it, but I am pretty confident that when I have blips along the road they will be just that - blips, and not a return to previous patterns of drinking.

Wow, only 14 units for the week! That is fantastic. I'm dreaming of when I get to where you are now unit wise. Congrats to you! I hope the wedding goes well and I'm sure you will do well also. Keep up the great work.

Best,

Awesome job, EL! Like PP, I also look up to you as a "unit-mentor" since you are pretty close to exactly where I want to be numbers-wise. No pressure though!

Enjoy the wedding in Oregon - it's beautiful out there.
