DAY 7

Whoop, whoop made my first week and finally feeling like I can do this. Went out last night for a meal with hubby and had two glasses of wine. I've noticed that it goes to my head really quickly - and I could feel myself feeling a bit grumpy and argumentative so had to mentally pull my socks up!

The main down side I have found so far this week is forgetfulness - not sure if this will gradually wear off (I certainly hope so). I find myself talking about something and completely forgetting an important and simple piece of information. For example, a programme that I watch all the time and I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called. It's either NAL or I've developed serious dementia overnight!!

Anyway - from a progress point of view, I have only had 12 glasses of wine this week so far (usually I down between 58 and 60 a week). I plan to have a couple of glasses of wine tonight. Hopefully I won't overdo it.

I've also purchased a little capsule thing to go on my key ring and have popped a few pills inside - no excuse to ever forget one now!

Anyway - I won't be posting on this thread every day now that I've got the first week under my belt, but will attempt to get back here every Friday for an update.

Hooray well done Snap,

I too had terrible memory when I first started and would be mid conversation and forget what I was saying, or the word for very simply things.. that's gone thank goodness.

I also got your argumentative thing, I have felt like that twice now in the period after taking the pill but before drinking, its not due to 'needing' a drink it happens quite quickly and is over quickly to, but I have been snappy both times.

Woot, woot snapdragon, I hope this works for you and by all means, post as much as you feel the need to. We can all learn from one another's journeys. Take care, Keek

Well done Snapdragon! That's a huge decline in a short amount of time. You are responding fast, wtg.

Hi Snap, said I'd post a bit about having to work with drinkers and the pressures that goes with it. Mine all started long ago while waiting tables through college, but I gravitated to the drinkers, so I can't really say it was a hostile work environment. However my niece is in an office environment that glamorizes drinking ( they even have a pool table and beer in the break room). This is what I mean by a hostile work environment. I've tried to talk to her about making better choices such as hanging out with the gym rats as opposed to the drinkers, but of course she is gravitating to the drinkers. Anyhow, I know that it is much more difficult to make better choices when one is surrounded with people who encourage choices that aren't good for you. Hopefully the Nal and TSM will give you the ammunition to tell the people who encourage you to drink, to mind their own business. Good luck, Keek

As the day has gone on I can't help thinking that this is actually what has been happening in my life. I have my body, but alcohol is the pilot and I'm trying to drive it out.

That's a powerful image.

Morning all - just thought I would drop in and update.

Not doing too well this week. I'm on day 12 so have already had 20 drinks in 4 days

I have had two days just having two drinks (at home) - but two days drinking 8. I'm cross with myself about last night because we went to the local pub with friends for a pub quiz and I only had 2 glasses of wine. But when I got home at 10.30 pm I had to make a desert (we have friends coming for dinner tonight) so whilst I was mixing and pouring I couldn't resist opening another bottle of wine - and yep, finished it. Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish - and I feel like Rubbish this morning too - serves me right!

As mentioned, we have friends coming for dinner tonight. I don't know these people very well as they are old friends of my husband's and his ex-wife  So I need to be on my best behaviour. I might attempt and AF night - I'm sure they won't be drinking much as they have to drive home after.

Hello snap,

please don't beat yourself up, TSM isn't about your will power its about letting extinction happen, so another way you could look at it, is that you did a good amount of extinguishing last night (is that the right word!!!)

previous to TSM we all had many days a week when we beat ourselves up about drinking, waking up hungover and promising we wouldn't drink then at 4pm starting again, that just showed us that whatever we were trying at the time wasn't working, and always had to do with will power. This is totally different and outside our control, and only takes us to remember one thing.. nal plus an hour.

Of course there are still situations that require some will power whilst doing TSM alcohol and driving being an obvious, and also probably not upsetting your husband! Personally I have found Nal decreases craving to a level that I am able to cope in certain situations and I have my fingers crossed you will be able to tonight.

but all in all certainly NOT rubbish

Hi snap, I totally agree with nigelr, don't beat yourself up as this is what alcohol addiction is and if you could control it you wouldn't be doing TSM? Day 12, c'mon that is nothing just like me at 4 weeks today is nothing, we have a long way to go if we want results per what most people post on the Cured section. Don't worry, I am in the same boat as you and of course when I wake up the next day and had drank more than I should with a gigantic hangover I am peeved at myself. I do not have any control yet but damned if I won't down the line. By the way I get a hangover probably every 2 days or so cause I think I am becoming more of a light weight with alcohol + Nal. Funny my 87 year old Mom can drink the same amount of wine (1 1/2 bottles) and feel just fine the next day but I feel like death warmed over, lol!
Go easy on yourself and others have said don't over think this!
Sending a big hug xoxox ;)
