I've gone alcohol free for 2 weeks now, after using up my 1-year prescription for nal and deciding to try quitting. I want to wait a little longer before declaring myself cured, but I think I'm going to make it.

I have not been craving a drink and I've been getting back to doing some things that I used to enjoy before the drinking took over everything. It feels good to not be continually alternating between drunk and hungover.

MLB - Thanks for posting the update and your story in general. It makes me (cautiously) optimistic as I start this process.

Glad to hear things are going well, mlb. It might be a good idea to have some nal on hand just in case though? If you do decide to start drinking again or "relapse" (I hate that word)...it would be better to do it with nal, I think.
Best of luck
EL

@EL
Your advice might be right for many people, but not for me, I think.

If I had some nal, I would take it and I would drink. I don't want to drink without nal, because I think I would quickly get re-addicted. So, not having any nal helps me to not drink.

My goal has never been to just drink occasionally and moderately. I don't think that would be possible for me. My goal has been to quit and never have another drop. I've had enough alcohol for one lifetime already.

I've been alcohol-free for three weeks now. I'll give it one more week before declaring myself cured, although I'm pretty confident about making it.

Good job MLB!

You are an inspiration. I must admit that my inclination for you is to keep some NAL on hand just in case you are tempted to drink, that way you won't drink without it.

But, if you are able to stay clean your way ... don't listen to me! All the best!
