DOMD,

Congrats on your excellent progress :!:

I have a friend in AA who hangs with us (old high school friends) all the time, despite heavy drinking at all of the parties. I don't resent the fact that he's drinking water--I'm just glad he's there. One can never have too many friends however.

Your progress is inspiring. :D

3 nights a week though ain't bad DOMD. You're doing great, and I bet extinction is still occurring. Thanks so much for coming back and posting.

Friday night and I didn't drink! Nice

DOMD,

Sorry this has been such a tough week. No surprise given the history. I would expect the engagement breakup to be a HUGE trigger. I'm glad you survived and hope next year will be far easier. Doesn't it seem like the whole first year is one big extinguishment experience?

My big sister committed suicide January of this year. The fallout has been rough. I imagine even if TSM is working well for me by the holidays, I will hit a rough patch come January of next year. We didn't drink in a vacuum. Alcohol had helped us when things were tough. I guess we have to learn new ways to cope and TSM is giving us a chance to explore our options.

Thinking of you and hoping things go better next week. Take care, BTDT

DOMD,

You are so right. The alcohol took away from the experience NOT helped me through it. My sister had been sick with for many years with a debilitating mental illness (schizophrenia) so I really don't blame her. I just loved her dearly and was sad for my loss. Interestingly, I was stone cold sober from November thru June. Even after I lost my sister, I stayed away from drinking until June. It wasn't until after dealing with my family and the memorial service in June that I finally lost my way again. This says much more about me and how I deal then about her and what happened.

Truth is... I can't handle alcohol and hopefully TSM can help me work through my addiction.

I wouldn't minimize what you went through. I can only imagine that a broken engagement can be a horrific loss. I do hope next year will be easier for you. Certainly TSM gives us the ability to put our drinking behind us.

Are you still in Australia or are you overseas? You mentioned being an Expat but I didn't notice where? My hubby is a kiwi and we've spent a bit of time on your side of the globe but mostly in the Sydney area. I guess it doesn't matter. Addiction can hit no matter what side of the globe, what age or what our circumstances.

I am just grateful we have the opportunity to find a permanent solution. I'm not there yet but I am very hopeful.

You graph looks great and is a wonderful testimony to what we an expect if we hang in there.

Thank you for continuing to post!!! BTDT

Yeah the heartbreak thing is a bitch! It's funny you mentioned something to the idea that nobody around you knows you feel this way.

I type things on this board that I don't say in real life out loud. Pretty interesting that I trust y'all because I don't know you.

I'm sorry about the broken engagement thing, and I totall understand still being upset every now and then. I'm in a similar boat and you've just encouraged me to write in my progress thread about finding boxes of her stuff the other day and a note she had written me a few years ago. It fucked me up and I didn't tell anybody about it.

and I'm sorry about your sister BTDT. mine's way way out there right now and I can't see her ever coming back, we;re trying to get custody of her child. I hope she snaps out of it. drugs.
i usually get depressed this time of year anyway.
october is a weird month.

you'll live through that **** guys. thanks for opening up
