Hi Sticky - You and I are sort of stuck in the same place although you do have AF. I too had about 30.5 units last week which ended last night for me. I posted my week at 31. For me I need AF days. For you, you need to find a way to limit your units when you do drink. Not at all sure how you would do that, but I am pulling for you.

Hope we both have remarkable weeks in week 26!

Good luck Sticky. I'm also rooting for you :) we seem to have somewhat similar drinking patterns (3 AF days fairly easily, but then the occasional big blowout and units around 30/week...) so I really hear where you're coming from. I have also woken gotten myself into strange situations.....once, I went home drunk and got pizza and decided to shower with all my clothes on AND THE PIZZA, and then went around my apartment smearing said soggy pizza on the walls. My roommate was quite frightened when he woke up in the morning and saw wet clothes dropped everywhere and what looked like BLOOD on the walls !!!!!
Just came to mind :)

Hey EL, What a great story! We do seem to be in a similar groove, except that I am at week 26 already. Grrr!
I'm a little frustrated with my progress right now, but thank God for the support & humour on this forum.

Sticky

Hi Sticky, this is the third time I've posted this because my internet keeps crashing, grrr. Anyway I can empathise with your frustration, I felt exactly the same way. Just a thought in relation to you have drinking sessions with high units. I wonder whether some of that stems (maybe subconsciously) from what you've learnt in AA. Ie you believe you have no power to moderate/change your behaviour in relation to alcohol. Its put well here in an article i found examining the link between personality and alcoholism.

"In this sense, then, the idea of an indelible alcoholic personality — the belief that a leopard can never change its spots — can actually contribute to or create alcoholism. That is, believing that one has a personality that means he or she can never hope to control his or her drinking can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Trying to persuade people that they have such a personality can literally do more harm than good. After all, some people who appear completely out of control of their actions at one point significantly change their outlooks and ability to regulate their behavior later in life."

I don't know whether this applies to you but I'd thought I'd put it out there. In relation to taking a letter to Bali, no I didn't take a letter but I did take a copy of the script and took my Nal in the labelled box from the pharmacy. Hope you have a great week and believe in your ability to change/moderate. Look forward to hearing that you smashed the 30 unit mark next week, Warren

Hi Sticky - Wanted to chime in here. I relate to your frustration.....wow, do I relate. It is hard to be stuck in week 26 at weekly units or nightly drinking that you thought you would be done with by now! However, we have made amazing progress thus far. I have to agree with WJ. We both seem to be more afraid that we cannot change the habit part of this, but we will. Just be patient. You have developed a great attitude about the whole process and that will help a lot as you ride the final wave to regained control. We will get there my friend.

Thanks Warren & HG for your support. It means a lot to me. You may have a point WJ. When I'm thinking rationally I believe TSM can work for me, but maybe after a few drinks that all goes out the window. I have had control on some occasions since the honeymoon, notably at my 50th, so I need to hold onto that. We can all get there!!
I'm going to admit something to you guys that I've told hardly anybody in NZ - when in Thailand next week I'm having a face lift!! Very vain I know. I've been planning it for a few years. Am getting nervous & excited at the same time. Am not supposed to drink the night before or for a week after the op.
Had rather a boozy weekend so am trying for 4 AF days in a row.

Cheers
Sticky

Hi Sticky - I don't know if I've missed you already and you are in Thailand, but I hope not. I had a face lift a few years ago! Wow, it was rough....I hope your process is a bit easier than mine was. However, the results were amazing and I was very happy that I did it.

Let me know how it goes or how it went! Good luck and I'll be thinking of you.

Hi all

Thanks IAMDAVE and HG for your support! It's good to hear you've had a face lift too, HG. I hope it's not too painful as I'm planning to go elephant trekking and out to Phi Phi etc in the second week.

Managed to just sneak in under 30 units this week. Still don't have that off switch I need, but will keep working on it!

We are flying out on Sunday - can't wait!! We will take a laptop all going well I will update over there.
Take care all of you.

Cheers
Sticky :P
