All41

I feel like we have a few folk here now who are after the same goals, we all understand the science and all have some doubts.

Some lucky folk respond very quickly, for most of us were on a journey. I'm glad to be on this journey with all you folk to keep me company.

I have no doubt that people that seek and find support from others in the same boat are more likely to stick with the protocol and succeed.

So far I'm having a good week, drinking is down and I'm on my second AF day. Can't say they came naturally though, I had an important meeting first thing this AM and couldn't afford a nalover like the last one. This afternoon I'm hunting with my younger son and sobriety is mandatory.

I took advantage and exercised both days..........thanks Cheeto for inspiring me to get off my butt :D Exercise, even if I'm just walking, always makes me feel better.

I probably won't be on here again till Monday so everyone have a safe weekend. I want to share with you all with a song by a Canadian band I was listening to while I worked out (if I can get the link to work). It's a tragic love song but It makes me think about my love/hate relationship with alcohol. So here's to hoping alcohol becomes something I used to know.

All41 as I had said I know you are not suppose to exercise on Nal+drinking days but I would only have 1 day every 2 weeks or so and I want to get in shape.
I did miss exercising yesterday because I was way too busy and then went out for dinner but today I gotta get back on that horse and exercise even though I am hungover AGAIN!
Good for you all41!

I know it has been discussed and I guess determined, but I'm not buying the no exercise on Nal+ drink days. I usually run, walk, lift weights, or do something active in the AM, take Nal in the late afternoon, and do whatever amount of drinking I do for the day in the evening/at night. I feel better when I do, am less anxious, crave better food, and sleep better. I don't know, am I doomed to fail?

all41 - great to read your bio. Looking forward to witnessing the farmer salt the soil of alcohol dependence.

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure you're fine. It's exercise after nal which can extinguish exercise-seeking.

Congrats, all41. Sounds like you're doing well.

I agree Melissa that exercising after Nal would be the big No-No!!

Hi again, All41, I'm happy to see you are progressing. Question: Was going AF in order to be focused a conscience decision and were you able to stick to those decisions in the past? I'm looking forward to seeing you progress even further. Keek

Week 2 is down and out!

I started at a 2 week baseline average of 8.7 USA drinks per day (pretty much gave myself permission for those two weeks) and dropped to 6.3 during the first week, and then 4.2 the second with 2 AF days. I guess I'm at the beach somewhere on my honeymoon, but I feel more clear headed than I have in a long while which is nice. On the second AF day I took an Alieve before bed (a little sore from 2 days of exercising) and I slept like a rock. Haven't done that for months it seems, and it felt really good. I hope to have more of them in the near future, but I'm not going to rush it. No remaining side effects from the Nal to speak of, it's pretty much the new normal, and drinking on Nal has no luster about it. I guess I still enjoy it on certain levels, but it's "dull". No feelings of withdrawal either......my anxiety level is pretty much unchanged.

kekede, yes I had to make a conscious decision and impose the two AF days. The first was for a work commitment - absolutely could not afford a nalover - and the second AF day was to take my youngest son hunting. The meeting at work went well, and I had positive time out on the farm with my 10 year old. All was good. To answer your question, for the past several years I would force AF days with a 1/4 dose of Antabuse. I know that that's not how you're supposed to use that med, but when I did it it's like I flipped a switch in my psyche like OK now you can't drink for 2 days. It wasn't enough to make me violently sick if I drank, but the couple of times I tried it at low dose it was a very unpleasant deterrent. Antabuse is nasty stuff and I hadn't done that in a long time. AF days of late have been rare, and usually came on days after drinking way too much.........more recovery than anything else.

I ended up exercising 4 days in a row, the first 2 AF, and the second 2 immediately before taking my Nal. Triplab, I'd have to agree with you. I really couldn't make a distinction and enjoyed all 4 equally. For the past several years I have exercised during my lunch hour to keep my A1C at acceptable levels, and it's a routine I can't afford to lose.
