My third night is more of the same. I'm not nearly as interested as I usually am and I just can't seem to stomach more than 5 or 6 beers.

From what I have gleaned here, Done, at the very least Nal almost immediately enables us to put a cap on things. To limit how much we drink. It seems to almost instantly put and end to the "I think I'll have one more, cause I'm feeling so good, so why not another to make me feel even better..." syndrome.

Once we have that....then we await the extinction process to work it's magic, slowly but surely reducing our craving and interest in drinking. That seems to take on average around 9 months to a year. Don't reduce your dosage to less than 50 mgs unless you are having bad side-effects. Dr. Sincliar -- over the last 48 years -- has discovered that most of us need at least that amount.

As Gott suggested, now you need to attack and examine the "why" are "wherefore" of your drinking habit. That addressed, you should be able to change the habit, but that might take a long time. Like me -- a 33 year habitual evening drinker. It didn't get out of hand until about...well, I'm almost ashamed to admit....15 years ago. I tried EVERYTHING before discovering TSM and Naltrexone. Now, I'm on the real road to recovery. Naltrexone is my "higher-power"...ie., modern medicine.

Keep on keeping on, and good luck to you. Keep us posted!

Dab, thanks for checking in. It's great to hear from some of the TSM veterans.

I agree with you about how Nal stops us from going overboard. On Friday and Saturday night I combine to have 17 drinks. Usually I would have that many, or more, on each of those nights.

Anyways, Nal has been a Godsend for me for these past twelve days. Hopefully the honeymoon doesn't end!

I'm just over 3 weeks into TSM and it is going very well. I'm still in the honeymoon period. Sometimes finishing 1 is difficult. And even when I do get to 7 or 8 drinks, it's usually over the course of 5 or 6 hours. That only gives me a decent buzz and doesn't cause much of a hangover, if any at all. I've had a couple AF days so far (and not because I was hungover!). Since starting Nal, I have not once felt that crazy compulsion to drink until I can't drink anymore.

I'm prepared for it to get worse. After reading the stories here, I understand that there will be ups and downs. I'm just very happy and thankful that I found TSM.

Great to read your post and see your progress Done. Maybe you will be "done" soon!!!

Started TSM Aug 2012. Had some success but over time the Nal SEs were so awful that stopped taking Nal. Managed a 30 day (Sept 2012) and 46 day (Feb/Mar 2013) AF period which also contributed to getting drinking under control.

Done, it sounds like you are off to a great start...what a thrill it is to have the Nal affect us right away, such that we can imagine/experience what life can be like, w/ the assorted alcohol miseries starting to lift! TSM can be cruel in some ways, such as being unpredictable as to how long it will take, and then the roller coaster up & down in units that some people suffer. But, ah, the honeymoon is a real blessing: a sample of things to come. Apparently, some people just go from the honeymoon to complete cure in a straight line (!), but for many of us remembering that sweet initial time w/ TSM is an important thing to hold on to, when and if we hit pot holes along the way.

Anyway, I'm very glad for you, and your happy report... :)

Gott and Chrissie - thank you both for your comments. This board is lucky to have both of you here!

I'm feeling optimistic about the process. Over the past 25 days, I simply can't drink like I used to.

Thanks again to both of you, and I'm thrilled that both of you are doing so well with your drinking!

TSM continues to be a spectacular success for me. I'm not drinking compulsively now and I haven't gotten really drunk since I started on 10/9. I'm not completely out of the woods, but I'm in a good place now. A couple months ago I was in a vicious cycle of drink (binge), withdraw, swear I would never drink again, white knuckle, have intense cravings, drink again, withdraw once more, etc. Not anymore!
