The one thing I'm worried about is having to take NAL everytime I drink for life...I know that everyone says you get over the side effects fairly quickly...but I'm about to finish week two and I feel like a freaking zombie the next day...definitely worse than with AL...kind of makes me want to just try to go cold turkey again...don't want to spend the rest of my life in some sort of pharmaceutical haze. I hear your concerns Tex, but if you think about it taking NAL an hour before drinking for life is a relatively small price to pay for what AL was doing prior to TSM (at least it was for me). I think it took me about 2 weeks to get over side effects of NAL, but everyone is different. I can definitely identify with feeling like a zombie the next day, and since I used to be a daily heavy drinker it curtailed that for me right away. The great thing about this forum is that there is no judgement, only support. If NAL continues to make you miserable you can adjust the dosage, or explore alternative solutions. The bottom line is it's all about what works for you.

Thanks BGH and everyone for your comments...much appreciated. I am probably going to post some big numbers this week...oh well. Hey Texans, I'm sure everyone reacts differently, but after the initial zombie type feeling, I have zero side effects taking NAL (I'm on week 10). In addition, over time I've been pleasantly surprised that drinking on NAL is not a bad experience, just more muted in a subtle way from non-NAL drinking. Because of that, I believe compliance -- i.e., taking NAL before drinking each time -- won't be that much of an issue for me. Hopefully over time you may also have less side effects and taking NAL before drinking will become less of an issue. I think that is the case for most people.

I've found that alcohol affects me completely differently now - I'm wondering if that's what you are feeling? Not so much the side effects of Nal, but the different 'side effects' of how the alcohol, plus Nal, has in your system. Just a thought.

I had a very slight woozieness the first time I took Nal - .50 too. But nothing after that - and I'm extremely sensitive to drugs usually.

Hope your discomfort goes away soon.

Thanks again for your comments...I actually woke up today and have not had the lingering zombie effects...I hope this continues because I don't think I could handle much more of that...actually feel productive today and will go to the gym this afternoon... ;)

Hang in there Tex-TSM is a roller coaster for most of us and I advise you to wait making any judgments about how well it's working or not working until AT LEAST 3 months have passed

Week 3 56 units 2 AF days

Better week. I actually had 2 AF days and didn't seem to struggle too much...NAL does seem to take away some of the craving. The scary thing is that last night I really seemed to enjoy drinking for the first time since TSM...and the three beers I started on tonight tasted pretty damn good, too. I will try to remain patient.

Week 4 68 units 0 AF days....

Doesn't look that great...however, I must admit that I think I might have made a breakthrough. After a rough week I decided with my wife to not drink for a while...see how it goes....Well, I will say that in the past it was very difficult to not drink for a few days but this time it was very easy...almost like I just decided not to drink and that was that. I am on my third straight AF day with no problems...I remember the first time I sobered up it was very difficult for at least the first few weeks...I was obsessed with having a drink...seems a little different this time...I think NAL really might help me with the cravings...A glimmer of hope?

And to think...this was over the weekend...football was on TV...Then Texans won and I didn't celebrate with booze...I didn't drink all weekend and really didn't have any problems....The hard part is going to sleep at night...I am used to being drunk enough to pass out so I will need to readjust myself to sleeping without the aid of booze on my AF days....hopefully there will be many more to come!

Good luck with the AF days. I'm also finding out that they are not as difficult as I thought they would be and they seem to be getting easier the longer I am on TSM.

Hi my fellow houstonian,I think I'm maybe 2 months ahead of you.I started September 9TH.
It's up and down, rocky road but one thing NAL wil show you if you listen.
It's just a habit, get rid of the habit.
