Well, I'm now solidly into week 2. So far, I've remained on 25mg naltrexone. I don't think I can tolerate stronger side effects, and it seems to be doing what it's supposed to. I generally take the med around noon to 1pm.

Pre Sinclair I was around 50+ US units/day. This first week, the naltrexone seems to have cut my daily consumption roughly in half. I did have one day where I killed 5 beers. Another day 2. One day I thought I could abstain completely - but then something at work stressed me out and I ended up with the 2. On average, I seem to hover at 3-4 per day.

I still get the craving - but on Naltrex drinking seems to just make me tired. Sometimes I get a slight headache. I can only hope this negative reinforcement continues. Now into the 2nd week, I feel like I'll probably hover at close to the same level, as my craving doesn't seem to be changing that much.

Naltrexone seems to help me sleep. I've had some of the most blissful nights since I started this med. Anyone else notice this? It's one side effect I don't mind.

Now entering my 3rd week.

I guess my honeymoon is over, but there are positive signs as well. I'm still hovering below my pre-Sinclair 50+ units/week. I also have no problem stopping my drinking around 9pm each night. Previously, I've stayed up late (1am) each night watching TV or surfing the Internet while killing beers.

It's also later in the day when I pop open the first one. Instead of 10am, it's now 3-4pm. So I remain optimistic in spite of my return to around 40 units/wk right now. James

Hey James, what you're describing is awesome progress for being so early in the game. Congratulations on the beginning of a new life!
