Hi all

Still struggling but carrying on with Nal. However I've decided to supplement it with Baclofen. I'm waiting for that to arrive. Hopefully this way I will be able to increase my A/F days.

Has the 50mg per day Nal regimen one hour prior to drinking changed you at all during the past 8 weeks? Or do you notice nothing?

Bob

That's the way ASHL- if you feel changing something might help, go for it.

Good for you in not giving up.

Thanks for your replies all.

Bob I did have a few good weeks one where I cut my consumption to 2 thirds of pre nal treatment. My main trigger is anxiety and am having an anxious time at the moment. I am sticking with the sinclair method just supplementing - I believe it will eventually be successful though could take much longer than I anticipated.

Seems like you're really using good sense, Ash. There is a doctor who specializes in pharmaceutical treatment of alcoholism, and will treat via phone/internet. Costs a couple grand (which I don't have to spare at present), but if you can afford it, it might be wise if you're mixing meds to have medical oversight.

I'm disappointed, though, that I contacted him with info about this site, he responded via e-mail with a few questions, but evidently decided not to jump in and participate. My hope was that he could bring some of his successfully treated patients to help encourage all us 'newbies.'

Thanks GFM. At the moment I have little faith in the way most medical doctors address alcohol dependence - even the 'specialists'. Most of the time when I have discussed it with them I was just referred back to the 12 step groups which are not for me.

I know enough about naltrexone and baclofen to realise they do not interact and the extra toxic effect on my body is negligible when compared to heavy alcohol intake. I also understand exactly how both medications work on the CNS. It's not that I'm recommending self medication to other people - it's just in my experience I would rather take responsibility for my own treatment as someone who has researched this in depth rather than put the onus on someone else.

ashl
