I start my drinking week on Friday as that's the day I first started Naltrexone just over a month ago.

Friday - Alcohol free day. Didn't miss it.
Saturday - Binge! 2 bottles of wine  20 units. Will avoid wine from now on as I drink it like beer/water.
Sunday - Productive day. Had 3 cans of lager (6 units). Would normally have the preconceived notion I would require at least 4 cans to feel good but not today.

Hope to newbies: I was a 24x7 drinker - been through rehab, endless NA/AA meetings and worked the steps all to little or short-lived success.

I've got a long way to go but after starting Nal one month and two days ago I managed 3 alcohol free days over the last 7. That's big news and big results for me and family. I think I am the most happy I have been in about 9 years. I also feel no guilt or shame over my alcoholism - just the way I have treated people in the past due to being buried in it. In my own way I do need to 'make amends' but the time is not right yet. I'll give my self another couple of months to see where I am then. However I am absolutely amazed with 'me' and my parents (whom I currently live with) are now 100% sold.
:D

WOW - That's amazing! Congratulations!!! :D

I just got home from a ridiculous night of drinking with friends - I drank 11 beers, and broke 2 that I knocked off the table next to the hot tub. So stupid as usual, and now I'm horribly hung over. In 15 minutes I'll have some Bloody Mary's - 'the cause is the cure' as we always say. Reading about your progress was wonderful. I've been beating myself up all day for drinking so much last night, but now my attitude is back on track, thanks to your post!

Good for you KK. We know the downside and heavy binges are transient and diminishing slowly!

WHOO HOO Ashl!

I can relate to you SO much in your 24/7 drinking and 2 bottles of wine the other day - let's see, it's a touch after 4 PM and I am about to open my second bottle.

My God, there really IS hope! *couple of happy tears*

WTE

KK: OMG! I grew up in Livonia!

Thanks WTE. There really is hope. It seems such a small price for a much better quality of life and people starting to want to spend time with me again :)

Still a bit shaky in the mornings even on the days after I've drunk very little or nothing. :?

I guess the shakiness is because you are in effect going through a bit of a detox- you have lessened your intake, so I guess it is to be expected, and probably a good sign rather than bad- hopefully it will pass pretty soon.

You sound as though you are doing just fine!

Ashl- That is fantastic- you must feel very relieved, I know I do. It is so strange that something that was such a constant source of sadness and worry in my life has just kind of faded to something that is still prominent but I now can think of it in a positive light rather than just sinking into black despair.

Here's to the next 6 weeks 8-)

I feel exactly the same. It's a huge weight lifted off. I know myself it's working...may not quite as fast as I like (I want to be within safe drinking levels yesterday) but the hope is the most prominent thing about this program for me. That and not having to go to meetings ;)
