At long last I have begun TSM. This is my last shot, so have everything riding on it. AA failed me, Baclofen failed, so this is it.

Have done the two 25mg sessions, and did my first 50mg last night, an hour before downing 2 bottles of wine.

Its funny. When reading about TSM, it seems so simple. Take a pill an hour before drinking. Duh. But it actually takes some getting used to. Like I awoke this morning and immediately reached for the bottle of wine and then thought, "oh wait, gotta give it an hour" hehe.

So I have now taken the pill and have 15 mins more before I can drink. But I dont feel any different when I am drinking after taking Nal. I get the same high, get the same pleasure. Is that normal, or do you guys feel the Nal inhibiting your pleasure receptors?

Thanks all.

Hi zman,

I hope your TSM journey takes you to where you want to go.

Out of interest, why was baclofen a failure?

All the very best.

It didnt work for me because I couldnt handle it at high doses. I got up to 165mg per day and just felt really messed up. I tried to titrate down but the awful, sickening feelings wouldnt go away. It sad because I DO believe that if you go high enough, it will work. But i'd rather be drinking than feeling like that all day. I am still taking it a low doses (45mg a day) because it helps with anxiety and sleep.

But are you doing TSM? If so, can you answer my question about what its supposed to feel like when you drink on Nal?

Thanks.

Hi zman,

Yes, I'm doing TSM. In fact, I have just completed week 25 on TSM. You can follow my story (should you wish to!) on Virgil's Progress. See viewtopic.php?f=9&t=139.

Regarding your question about what it's supposed to feel like when drinking on naltrexone, that's a tricky one. I think it would be correct to say that different people experience this differently. I can only speak about myself and the only thing I've ever noticed when drinking on naltrexone is that I sometimes feel the effects of the alcohol more quickly, i.e. after fewer drinks when compared with pre-TSM. Perhaps others will offer their experiences.

BTW, thanks for the feedback about baclofen.

All the best.

V.

The short answer is that it varies for everybody. It's been discussed a lot on the board. Here is one place I found it:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=57&p=323&hilit=buzz+on+naltrexone#p323

If you search the forum, it's been discussed elsewhere more recently. I searched "buzz on naltrexone" but you could also try "drinking on naltrexone."

Hey Zman, glad to hear you are starting the program. I had a similar question regarding drinking on nal. Here's the thread:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=298

Just be glad your last stop is TSM, because this one really works!

Thank you all for your replies. As Lena will attest, I kinda freak out whenever I see anything that may suggest that this will not work for me. I guess its bc nothing else has worked and this is the last line of defense so to speak.

Firebird, the thread you linked was very heartening. The question you posited at the beginning of the thread was pretty much what I was thinking.

Thanks
