Looking for some advice on rosacea. Mine has gotten much worse on Nal even though my drinking units are sometimes same, sometimes fewer than pre Nal. Who's got it? What do you take/use for it if anything? Worse on Nal?

As well, an increase of facial flushing - red cheeks, nose and chin, slight swelling - I've read lately that this is an allergic reaction to the histamines produced by red wine. This is something that used to happen to me at times but since I've been on Nal it's every time I drink which is a major bummer!! Any experience with this on Nal? Does this subside?

I'm also pretty bummed out because I'm not enjoying drinking at all! My goal was to drink when I wanted to, not when I HAD to - but turns out I don't feel very well when I even have one drink. Does this pass after awhile on Nal? I would certainly like to have a glass or two at times and actually enjoy it!! I don't want abstinence!!!! Should I try different drinks? If I drink white instead of red will that help? Should I try vodka?

I'm being a baby about all this, I know, but would like to have some reassurance that my life is not going to tank with Nal!!! This TSM was supposed to make me happy!!

BGH try switching to white wine is my advise, red has something in it that I can't recall right now but I think that might be what's causing it. Have you had your blood pressure checked lately?

found this in wikipedia:

"A recent study found rosacea patients have a significantly higher incidence of bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine compared to controls (47% v. 5%, p<0.001), and that eradication of this overgrowth in afflicted patients, using a 10-day course of Rifaximin, an antibiotic that cannot be absorbed from the digestive tract, produced complete remission of rosacea symptoms in 96% of patients. This remission lasted for at least 9 months without further treatment. In the 4% of patients that experienced relapse, researchers found that bacterial overgrowth had returned, and a second course of eradication treatment again produced sustained remission. [11]"

Hi Lo0p I'm glad you're back, who would give us this kind of information if it weren't for you.

Remember we need you and I hope know you need us.

NP BGH. It sounds to good to be true, but from a cursory search on the internet it seems to me that this is the real deal. Unbelievable, but then again it is 2009, did you know that there is a cure for alcoholism now?

I just pulled the PDF of the full study "Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth in Rosacea: Clinical Effectiveness of Its Eradication" from Johns Hopkins Sheridan Libraries. Man i love that thing. I can send it to you if you give me an email address, so you can give it to your doc. It has a bunch of photos and graphs so posting it here would be tough for me to do. -E
