I was in the midst of posting a long and thoughtful (to me) reply when I was called away from my computer. I left the partially completed post on my screen and finished it when I returned about an hour later. When I tried to Submit, the board had logged me off and all my words had vanished.

I realize this can happen, but nonetheless forgot to copy my post to the clipboard as I went along as I know I should have done. Frustrating nonetheless, and I don't have the time nor inclination to recreate it.

Many people are aware of this, but I can only stress: to avoid disappointment, always keep a copy on your clipboard, or paste it to a temporary Word document before hitting Submit!

Mike

Pressing the back button fixes that for me...but it doesn't work for everyone.

I upgraded to Internet Explorer v8, and ever since, I'm automatically logged off after a period of time. And when I initially go to the site each time, I have to login because my ID/password are no longer 'remembered' - from what I've been able to find on the Internet, this is a known and unresoved issue with IE8. :x Figures...and I even waited for months, ignoring the Update messages. There are a few features I like though, so I'm just going to live with it for now. BUT, if anybody knows or hears of a fix for this, please share. Thanks. :)

I have that exact issue too and it bugs me. But I'm running firefox and google chrome. Haven't investigated a solution for it yet.

Isn't it a messageboard setting? That in the code it will log you off automatically after a certain period of inactivity? That's been the case for me on other forums, and if it is here the programmers could just extend the cut-off time.

Hi 8,

Nope - it's not a message board thing. This didn't happen until my upgrade to IE8, and I'd stay logged into the site for DAYS (entire weekends out of town) with no disruption. Even after exiting the site, once I returned, I was automatically logged in - this is an option when you first login (remember me). It worked great until now.

Are there any options that can be/have to be tweaked in IE8 for automatic log-out from sites?

If not, and IE8 offers no great advances, how about rolling back to the previous version?
