I would like to ask that we have a new date and location for a hang with all of us cyber folks....

I personally would like to be cured when it happens...so can we look at Jan or Feb of 2010? I might add that Key Largo is easy to get to..not too touristy and I have a mom and pop old Florida place I can hang at for $79 a day,..so between that and a $250 round trip ticket....I'm down. Any takers? Plus its a nice little spot!

I recommend flying into Ft. Lauderdale and driving from there. MIami stinks and is generally more expensive and a pain...ok gauntlet is thrown....takers?

Well, since I live in Florida, I wouldn't have an excuse not to go; I could drive there in a few hours. So yes, I would definitely go.

What would we do?
Recite the TSM serenity prayer?

I think a conference organized by us is a good idea. But I think we need to wait for THE CURED list to be a lot longer and to have confirmed interest by many on this board before we follow through.

Nick's right, we should do a conference after we have a larger cured list. It could be our chance to try to get some media attention. What would we do is also a good question. If the doctors would speak, that would be a good start, but we definitely need more than that, I think.

Location seems not so great. Couldn't we pick somewhere more central? Say . . . Seattle! Ok, maybe more central than that.

I do think a conference, planned by us, promoted to the media, and thought out well in advance would be a great idea.

1) We don't all live in the US, so it needs to be somewhere relatively easy to get to - or with sufficient other attractions to merit a two/three/four step journey
2) I'd estimate you'd want several hundred attendees before you'll be able to grab significant media attention, and even then it'll be a challenge
3) You'd want several years of sobriety/safe drinking behind ex-alcoholics before people will (and probably should!) take notice
4) 10% of people here attending would probably be a succesful outcome

I'd say we are several years away yet from such an event. Better to wait and make maximum impact than go off half-cocked in my opinion

Yes there should be a bunch more cured with some time...that's all true....BUt I guess, I was thinking about more a place where we could all just hang meet, maybe meet significant others (or meet available singles...my wife is currently very frustrated with me but when I'm cured, I'm sure she'll be fine).

But to your point about chanting the serenity prayer which I think as OUR big book gets written, you've just written our serenity prayer. I love it!

The things I think that'll need to be figured out as the cured list increases, is besides being a drunk, what else in my life has to be repaired, how do I fill in the time I now that I'm not lit every day....(thats easy,...work more on music and ,music production

So I wanted to share AS I almost forgot.

I had a wild dream the other night,....(one of Nals side effects)

So we were at the conference, we were all in seats and somebody was speaking...I think we were even chanting some kinda slogan or maybe it was Nick reciting his serenity prayer....but everyone was laughing, nobody was out of control and then the guy next to me cupped his hands together and blew into his thumbs to make that Clint Eastwood whistle....It was a festive occasion and I'm looking forward to our first one...

Again, I understand wanting maximum impact and a large group of cureds....but maybe the first one doesn't have to be about national exposure, or maybe its just about local exposure or none at all... but,...to keep enthusiasm.

Those of you with more experience, are the "cureds" abandoning once they're done? It doesn't seem that way to me....but again I'm a newbie,...sorry if I overpost
