I finally told my dear husband this morning about TSM and what I plan to do. He's a bit taken-aback about all this but he knows how bothered I am by my drinking so he's being supportive.

Here's the thing: He makes his own wine at one of those make-your-own places because it's cheap....but it really is awful stuff!!

I have a plan. If I'm going to drink "normally" in future - which using TSM I fully plan to achieve, I'm not going to drink that "crap" (excuse the language) anymore!!!

From today forward I am going to drink real wine and drink it when I want it - popping a Nal one hour before of course starting Monday. I live in an area of vineyards - for those not familiar with the Niagara region, we are kinda like a mini-Napa Valley - and we produce award winning wines of all kinds. Part of my plan for the winter is to get into French cooking - so I want to learn about wine parings too.

Something to do, as I get very bored in retirement - and something that will make future "normal" drinking an actual pleasure instead of just pounding back whatever has an alcohol content - like my husbands lousy plonk.

Sounds like a good plan! Although, I hope your husband doesn't read this forum, unless he already knows you think his plonk is crap??!

Hi and welcome! Plenty of fellow wine drinkers on this board.

Beware of initial side effects on naltexone and start at 25 mg. You will probably feel "spacey" and have nausea when you start out, but side effects go away after a few doses, typically. You may also have sleep disturbance. The wine may taste differently for you on naltrexone as well. And TSM works, for the vast majority who try it.

Anyway, feel free to ask questions and welcome.

Nick

Also, note that wine may not have as much appeal or taste as good when you lose your addiction. I know I don't like my Guinness so much any more and I used to love it earlier this year. I discovered a whole world of beverages that don't have alcohol in them that taste better to me now that my addiction is gone.

Hi all - my husband now knows how I feel about the "crap" as I stopped on my way home tonight at the LCBO (government liquor store) and bought two bottles of French wine - one good with beef which I had tonight, and one for chicken for tomorrow. I measured out 8 oz which I consider one glass. That's all I had - got a nice buzz but don't really want any more. Well, I lie - I could have more but will be satisfied with what I drank.

He's pretty wonderful actually my hubby - loves me to death - which really helps!!!!!

It's so helpful to hear all the cautionary tales about dosage and nausea expectations etc. - I'm READY. I hope the lovely wines don't get to taste like his plonk on the nal......

I've started a "wine log" so I will know how to drink when I do drink. This will be my winter project. Thanks for the comments.

Food for thought

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
