Hello everyone
I should have done this before . All the same the news is pretty good.
I was part of the first generation here in 2009 and went on the cured list.
The fact that I never went for full abstinence must mean that the NAl threw my addiction way down to a manageable size.
I was on 2 btles of wine a day rising to 4 at weekends or equivalent in other alcohol type.
I was watching on Youtube what I rate as on of the best allround documentaries , God knows I ve watched a ton. This one was called Risky drinking . One of the good things was that it really stressed the importance of a multi choice of treatment options . Although they did not say TSM per sei NAL was mentioned as an aid to cutting right down.
Like so many I went further than I should in my efforts to stop, and before TSM, rather alternated periods of hellish abstinence where craving drove me up the wall and back to the bottle.
It s so clear the facts speak, most people do not and can 't stop ,and at he end of the day advising that is now at last being apreciated as NOT what suits most people .
Discovering TSM really is THE thing that I feel most grateful for in my life it delivered me from hell and I so hope that is the case for all who come here . If not don 't give up there are other possibilities( Baclofen for one) .
So my story shows a few things worth noting . Firstly that I m still alive and I don 't think my liver would haver held out these eight years otherwise. There is still a certain buzz or pleasure from drinking it helps me relax. I can apreciate good wine which is a fine thing.
I do n't have unbearble cravings . They re mild and resistable .
I drink in safe limits half .75L bottle and take days off .
Nal still works and never lost its curbing effect . I am not tempted to stop it as some fear and warn happens . Frankly the list would go a long way if I went on to the things that alcohol lead me to andd the pain it caused me and my wife . We all knowthat if only the details vary .
Best wishes to all with this God send . If you re starting and wondering if it ll work stick with it you may well get your life back and more than you ever bargained for.
Thankyou Dr Sinclair your work was a great gift to so many.

Elfern, thank you for the much needed update. I wish more veterans like yourself would pop in and substantiate the effectiveness of this treatment for the new arrivals. Everything sounds grand!

I wonder if you might consider posting an update on the other (more active) board as well. You can post as a 'guest' with no registration needed. A quick copy/pasta:

Best wishes!

Yes yes yes! Thanks you very very much Elfern for checking back. It's really so very helpful to hear of success in the long term. I was almost immediately successful with TSM. After just two days on Naltrexon in accordance to TSM my drinking went down from 15-20 drinks a day to 3 or 4. And after two years I've never looked back. I do sometimes drink more than I should even today (maybe 6) and I always get that concerned worried feeling that perhaps the Nal isn't working anymore... Of course it is, and it's good to hear that in another 8 years I can expect the same.

Your post id very helpful to everyone who is beginning this journey and for those who are still on it.
