Hello,

Great board and TSM is something that I think is a great new break through!

Presently I am in AA and very close to my 30 chip. I am not here to say AA does not work, but quickly figuring out that AA is not the be all end all. I have my own conflicts with AA that really does not matter to my question at hand but has to do with your thoughts on what you think I should do.

Before I quit drinking I would say I was a "heavy" drinker but not a daily drinker. I would say 4 days a week. The problem though was how much I would drink on those days. I can only count on one hand, in the last year, that I would only have 1 or 2 drinks then stop. Most of the time it was starting around 5 pm with drinks and go until I fell asleep. NOT GOOD!

Although AA has worked to this point, I see (and read) about people relapsing and actually drinking more than before, which makes a lot of sense. Being honest with myself, any time I have stopped for more than 4 or 5 days I would find myself drinking A LOT more on that first few days. With that information at hand I wonder if I should actually start the Sinclair Method now vs rolling the dice and waiting to see if I relapse. I know ultimately this is my choice, but would love any feedback from others.

Thanks for reading this.

Hi Glenn,

Welcome! I'm going to post my original thread on this forum below as it seems we have a similar situation. Otherwise I would suggest reading, "The Cure for Alcoholism" and watch the documentary," One Little Pill" if you haven't already. The former will inform you about, The Alcohol Deprivation Effect" which is why we often drink compulsively, furiously after having been sober for for periods of time. Best, Bardo

I think Bardo's post that he linked to speaks for itself and I see that I had many months ago posted this there:

"Currently the philosophy in TSM is that if you are abstinent then you should remain that way. "

So you are right. The choice of course is yours. No one here is going to advocate that you quickly run down to the store and get some booze so you can break your 30 day run and get started on TSM. If AA and abstinence works for you then stick to it and congratulations, you did it the hard way! But if it fails for you then take comfort in knowing that there is something else you can try that seems to work for the far majority of people who do it and do it properly.
