Hhmmm - well, I pretended I was still drinking and answered the questions and it said I was not drinking safely - or words to that effect - what happens next? I was not going to sign in!

I am not sure I can help much - I found it really hard to have an AF day and finally I took 1/8 of a tab of Antabuse which a lot of folk here frowned upon! BUT I needed to have one - for my mental state if that makes any sense? The amount of AB I was taking was probably not enough to do much of anything but psychologically it made me have an AF day - after that it got easier. I know that you are not supposed to force AF days or white knuckle - but if you are 5 months in, then I would probably try really hard - are you drinking that first one out of habit? Maybe try and put off the first one for an extra hour - and have something sweet - I sometimes found that the sweet thing stopped me from wanting a drink. Not really sure what else to say - I know it is hard but I also know that once you have had one it gets easier. another thing I did was to join in on here - a few of us had an AF Wednesday .... or Tuesday - or whatever - and with a few of us doing it, it was easier somehow - after all, I was not going to be the one that couldn't do it!

Good luck with it !!

Hugs, Maggie

Forwardthinking,

Thanks for the link. I have never heard of it, and when I have a moment I will check it out.

I think it was me that said to speak to Maggie, for she had a lot of issues with AF days until she felt completely different about alcohol. For almost a year Maggie struggled with AF days, and had to force them. But, once it clicked in her brain it really clicked!

So many people referrer back to the book, but a lot of us do not respond like the book. It is a good resource, but this is such a personal experience that we have to figure out what works for us.

I think Maggie has a good suggestion about pushing back that hour, even if it is 15 minutes. I did that. Those 15 minutes were hard, but it let me know that I could survive without that drink even though my body and brain were screaming for it. And then my body got used to that extra 15 minutes, so I pushed it to 30 minutes.

The real point is not to give up! You can push yourself out of your comfort zone to help your brain let go, but when your brain is ready to let go it will. The main thing is to just follow the golden rule and never give up hope.

Jaba

"I took 1/8 of a tab of Antabuse" great advice! More people should take it! I think the Sinclair method worked so quickly for me is because I was used to having AFD days with Antabuse.

nzspeak - when I mentioned on here that I was taking the AB, I had quite a few people having issues with that. I am not good at 'confrontation' and to be honest it upset me at the time. I was told that it wasn't good to use it, as that one wasn't supposed to white knuckle in any way, shape or form - but I needed to have an AF day mentally! I would recommend it to people as long as they know they cannot drink on it - and I took such a minute amount (it didn't agree with my tummy) that I probably could have had a drink - but the stuff scared me silly and I would never drink if I had any in my system so it was a great way for me to have an AF day when I could not have them otherwise! I am so glad that it helped you too! THANK YOU!

Hugs, Maggie
