i wanted to get to a goal of 4 beers per day, and later less. I do it sometimes but lLast night I drank seven and I feel rotten about having done so. I drink far less than I did before Nal but I am afraid that I will slip backward. I think habit has lots to do with it because I start around cocktail hour at 5:30. I never crave alcohol until that time approaches. Even when I was drinking three bottles a day I never drank in the morning. I am 72 with a fifty year history of excessive drinking. I am fortunate to still be alive and healthy. I have been on Nal since July and it has helped greatly but I seem to be stuck. I don't want to increase the dose yet but might consider it if other strategies fail. Has anyone else experienced a similar pattern?

Thanks,

Robert

Robert -

Quite a few people using TSM get to a plateau and find that they get the control they want in a 6-8 month period. Some take longer, like Maggie1929 and things change for them in at about a year in, give or take. If you're using Naltrexone and not Selincro, try breaking the pill in half and taking both halves (assuming you're taking 50mg). Are you a daily drinker?

How are you doing wrt AF days? Do you have a copy of Dr. Eskapa's book? You can also schedule a free Skype session with Joanna@Cthreeeurope.com, she's a certified TSM alcohol abuse counselor, people really get a lot out of her input.

Congratulations on knocking your intake down! How many are you drinking per session now? Hang tight, the Nal will help you get to where you want to be.

I'm in full agreement with the two posters above! six months in, you've seen progress already, but the best is yet to come. just stay the course and you'll see more happen. good luck!

Yes, 6 months is only the start.

The other suggestion I would make is, is there anyway you can limit availability of alcohol, such as only have your target number available?

Now fully in control, alcohol no longer bothers me. Chose to go AF from 22nd July 2013.
TSM set me free

Good one, UKblonde. I've used that method and it works, despite the store being only a block away.

lately i haven't been keeping wine in the house, as I have two different kinds of love affairs with beer and wine. because of a big blizzard, I've been stuck inside for a couple of days, and managed to stay AF with plenty of beer in the house. if wine was here, it would be more difficult for me. UKB's suggestion has helped me a lot too. having to physically leave the house to get "more" just doesn't seem as worth it and necessary as it used to.
