Morning all ...me again!! So I'm taking my nal a good hour before I drink ...that's fine. I'm still drinking everyday though !! I'm having usually two drinks a night ... But when I drink spirits they are large ones and still tend to get carried away a bit (drink more than I should )

I just don't feel like the nal is working !!?! I know it's still early days but I'd have expected to notice something !!?! :-(

Help ??xx

Hope,

You are still very early in this processes. Sinclair states in his book it takes a minimum of 3 months, and Dr. Eskapa is finding out that most take between 3-9 months and for some over a year.

You should be noticing that things are not the same. It is a subtle realization that something is missing. That is the nal. blocking the alcohol from the receptors in your brain.

Your brain may be still looking for that buzz or "ahh moment" that is no longer there (I know mine had a heck of a time accepting it), and that is why you may be getting carried away. It is like being hungry for something and unable to figure out what it is, so you keep on eating things but nothing is satisfying you. Your brain will eventually give up and forget that feeling. And that is why it is so important that you follow that golden rule, for you need your brain to forget and that just takes time.

Look back at how you were compared to now, is nothing different at all?

I bet things have changed, but just not as fast as you would like.

Just remember to follow the golden rule, measure your intake, and try to drink as slow as possible.

Time, my dear, and patience is what you need right now!

Jaba

Hope - I literally laughed when I read your post! Try being here for 11 months !!! It took me a long time before I had any AF days and then they were with the help of Antabuse ! Please do not think the Nal is not working - give it time. You have to have faith and patience !

Hugs, Maggie x

Hey Jaba !

When I'm drinking wine then yes ...I'm having one bottle to last the weekend rather than 3 !! During the week I've been having a baileys maybe two then that's it.

The I laws just brought me some home made sloe gin and I've turned crazy for it !! It's weird but I don't have control at all with spirits !!

So yes I suppose my intake is down a bit ...I am still feeling a bit of an'aaah' moment though !!?!

I'm having an AF night tonight as scare myself that I lose control with the sloe gin. It doesn't even tast like gin just fruity syrup with a bit of a punch !! ...maybe that's why....it doesn't taste like a spirit !?!

Anyway ...good to hear from you xx

Ha ha Maggie .....I know I'm impatient !! ....I think I just got frustrated as had a bit of a blip with some sloe gin over last couple of days.

I'm not finding an AF night a struggle though so maybe it is working better than I know xxx

Hope,

We are in a "want it now" society, so it is natural for you to want to feel something. But, this process is like losing weight. You didn't become an alcoholic over night, so you will not be cured over night. There are very few people that have had instant results, and if I didn't know Ocean, I would think that 3 months was a complete lie!

If you think you are still feeling that ahh moment, wait 90 minutes instead of 60 (something JoAnna suggested to me). JoAnna said she doubted that I was feeling anything, but waiting longer than the 60 minutes just incase I am. I still wait that 90 minutes and sometimes longer. I found out the longer I wait the less I drink. I get my nal from Walgreens and it is made from by Mallinckrodt. The pill is very hard. When I first got my script fill I got Revia and the pill was a lot softer and almost would dissolve in my throat (yuk). So, if you pill is hard, or even if it isn't, waiting longer than the 60 minutes can help (it helped me).

Sloe gin is like drinking Kool-aide, so I can see how easily it is to lose count. But as long as you follow that golden rule, and drink as slow as you can, it should be fine. If you can set a limit, say 2-3 shots, and in between each shot drink a large glass of water (as well as drinking water in between sips).

I am glad you are having an AF day, for it will give you a breather. Make sure you do a lot of fun stuff!

And it sounds like you are having a lot of good progress!

Jaba

Thanks as always ....I will definately try the 90 mins. The trouble with the sloe gin is its drank straight (it's no where near like white gin ) ...so I can sip but when I get carried away I just gulp ..... I guess the lesson is stay away from spirits xxx

Hope,

Make a sloe gin sunrise (with orange juice) or sloe gin fizz (with sprite) over ice. It may slow down drinking some.

Hi Hope,

I'm just a couple of weeks ahead of you in this process, and I'm really not feeling any different, either. We have to keep in mind that extinction takes time. For the vast majority of us, it's not an instantaneous thing! I know a good many people on this board that are several months in.... some over a year... and aren't where they hoped they'd be yet, either. Patience young grasshopper! Just trust in the process, follow the golden rule and, for crying out loud, stay away from the Sloe Gin!!!! Keep on keeping on!
