Hi All,

So, I've been on Nal for 8 weeks. I have taken it almost every day of the past 60 days.... even on AF days, as I've been scared that I might not make it AF and want to make sure that I'm covered. The physical effects of al have always felt the same for me, whether taking Nal or not, up until about the last week. I've noticed that I am feeling the effects of alcohol after my first drink, which is unusual for me. My BAC isn't higher after one drink than it usually is, I just feel like I'm getting "tipsy" way earlier. (I have been using a home BAC detector almost nightly to ensure that 100% of the al is out of my system before driving, so I know that my BAC isn't any higher than usual.) Has anyone else experienced this after several weeks on Nal? It's just so odd that I didn't feel like this before, but I am now.

Hey Minnie I have always felt it still even after having the first drink the only thing I notice is that the chase is completely gone. Do you sense that you feel like chasing the first drink? 8 weeks is a long time but the only thing I can think of is that since you started TSM and drastically reduced your consumption (assuming that is the case) your tolerance to alcohol also has gone way down. So think about it, when you were 13 years old and you had that first drink it probably went right to your head too but when you were 30 and drinking 7 - 10 drinks a night having just one was nothing.

I have no idea what your before and after numbers were but I'm just looking for an answer. Everything I've read about Naltrexone indicates that there is no tolerance for the drug so I can't see it being that.

Later on in my TSM I noticed really feeling the effect of just one small drink, and I didn't like it. This was one of the several things that convinced me I preferred being AF.

MinneMom,

Are you taking Nodict? If so please wait 90 minutes or try to crush the pill. The coating on it to causes it to absorb slower for some. I have seen the moderators suggest that on the OSL forum.

I did noticed that I would feel the effects of alcohol soon a couple months into TSM(more of a reason to keep my intake down), so you are not alone. And now that I have control it is sporadic and unpredictable, for it could be a couple sips and it feels like I am tipsy. I just thought it was one of the side effects of the nal. I am unsure if it is a tired feeling or a drunk tipsy feeling.

Is it making you slow down and decrease your intake? If it is just consider it one of the benefits (for I know I did).

I am not one that preaches that you must be "nal free" to be AF, but there is a purpose behind it. If you are unable to trust yourself and have to take a pill then at least drink 1/2 of glass of wine. At 8 weeks I could not be AF with the pill or not, so good for you! Doing that is giving your body a break from the alcohol, but your are not reaping the full benefits of being AF (which I know you know). It is okay to take that pill later in the day/night and waiting that hour. I did and it helped. It challenged me and made me realize that I didn't need that pill or the wine at a certain time (just a suggestion).
