Forgive me for re-inventing the wheel if someone else has already posted this.

I recently discovered this website:
http://www.drugs.com/naltrexone-images.html

This site shows Different Manufacturing Brands of Naltrexone and what they look like:

Teva Pharmaceuticals (Imprint: b 50 902 / Code:00555-0902) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/b-50-902-1249.html
Du Pont Pharm (Imprint: DuPont NTR / Code:?) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/dupont-ntr-2643.html
Mallinckrodt Pharma (Imprint: 1170 5 0 / Code:00406-1170) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/1170-5-0-10014.html
Sandoz Pharma (Imprint: E 39 / Code:00185-0039) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/e-39-11270.html
Actavis U.S. (Imprint A1 05 / Code: 52152-0105) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/a1-05-16999.html
Sun Pharma (Imprint 326 / Code: 47335-0326) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/326-18903.html
Precision Dose Inc (Imprint EL 15 / Code: ?) http://www.drugs.com/imprints/el-15-23111.html

The reason I am bringing this up is because When I began TSM I took the Sun Pharma Version (known as Nodict here) and it was working great as you can see in my Signature, my first 4 weeks were phenomenal. Nodict is not Time released, despite what the history messages show on this Forum.

After my first month, however, my Pharmacy Switched me From Nodict to the Mallinckrodt version (whatever they call that) and Ever since I noticed a huge change - It was not as effective and I began trying to up my dosage from 50mg to 75mg while sticking to the golden rule.

Today I am going to purchase 10 of Nodict (Sun Pharma Version) and 10 of Naltima (Intas Pharma Version) which are the only 2 available on All Day Chemist website. I will test these out and try to let you guys know if I notice any major difference between the brands.

Have any of you noticed a difference in effect from the different Brands? Naltrexone is said to not have the ability to build a tolerance to it, so I'm curious if switching to Mallinckrodt pill is part of why I don't notice the same effects that I did in the past.

Thanks
-GuyJeb

GuyJeb,

I started out on Teva Pharm. for 4 weeks, and now the pharmacy is giving Mallinckrodt. At first I panicked for I thought it was different; however, it was just me after the honeymoon period. My drinking went up a lot (from 1/4 a bottle to 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 a bottle) and I was thinking it was the pills. But now my intake is back down.

If you have a medical question you can always go to the c-3 forum or options saves lives, for I believe they have a doctor checking in, or one of the forum leaders have access to one for questions just like this.

Thanks Jaba... You may be right and that may be the case that It was just honeymoon period. I'll check out the C3 foundation. I've spoken to them once before as well.

GuyJeb,

I was really scared after the honeymoon phase. And my husband (who never says anything about my drinking) was even questioning if I was sure this was going to work. I felt like I was going to be one of the ones it doesn't work for. I started May 8 and I don't think I could have done a af day (unless I had a nal over) until last week. I am sure the medicine is okay, but it never hurts to ask.

One thing I remember someone telling me is that I will be fine because I came from a long line of alcoholics and I did have the honeymoon phase. I just needed to relax and follow the rule (it really is hard for me to relax for I worry about everything).

So, for peace of mind, please contact them. And then relax, it is going to work, and keep on posting!

Jaba

The bottle from my pharmacy says Naltrexone, BUT I really do not know how well it is working - it did seem to initially - but this time the tabs are a different shape - bottle still says Naltrexone - it actually says nf Naltrexone whatever that means - plus it is the label that the pharmacy puts on, not the one from the official bottle - so I don't know. I am thinking about starting to dissolve mine in water an hour before I take it and take it dissolved to see if that way I will notice any difference.

Jaba - Mallinckrodt is the name of the manufacturer. I actually Googled the pills that I have and they are both Naltrexone Hydrochloride 50 mg. if you Google the number on them it comes up what they are ....

Hugs, Maggie x

Maggie,

Yes, that is the manufacturer and his link to the pill was the one I had. I think the pill I am taking now is not coated in anyway for I can taste it sometimes (yuk), and the inside of the bottle had a little powder. I think if you look on your printed pharmacy label it should have the manufacturers name on it (at least my others pills).

I do know that I daughter had problems with her generic Concerta and the FDA did have concerns about whether or not those generic versions are therapeutically equivalent to the brand-name drug. Her doctor started to write Dispense as written (meaning no generic) and the insurance company is paying for it (which means they probably agree that it isn't working).

I am not sure if certain types of naltrexone are having problems with the properties not being as strong; however, I will try to do some research to find out if there have been other complaints with the FDA when I have time.

This was in a posting from GuyJeb's question from the options save lives:

Interesting question....

As far as I am aware, 50mg of naltrexone is 50 mg of naltrexone no matter which company make it.

Some people have noticed differences like yourself (usually it is the Nodict brand that people don't get along with!) and I can confirm that none of the easily available tablets, such as Nodict, Naltima, Revia etc are time release tablets, which is something that is often cited as a possible reason.

It is possible that one brand of tablet is harder than another. For example, I've used various brands and some definitely seem to be a firmer, harder tablet than others. This might mean that it will take longer for your body to absorb it. Perhaps try increase the time from 1 hour before drinking to 2 hours before and see if that makes any difference.

If the tablet is not properly absorbed, then there is a chance that some of the endorphins may not be blocked, so increasing the time may be a necessity for you with this brand.

If it doesn't, then I would imagine that during the first 4 weeks you enjoyed a good honeymoon period, which a lot of people do, and then after the your drinking levelled off to a gradual decline. Quite normal!

I am a little concerned that the nal I get from All Day Chemist has no markings on it! Is that normal? I thought all pills were marked. It is from Intas Pharmaceuticals.

I get Naltima from all day chemist. It comes in those bubble packs, but I think it has markings on the tabs. I will check. Newlife
