Hi. I started taking Nal about 10 weeks ago. Had the Honeymoon effect, then fell back to pre TSM levels. I have not excersised anywill power to consume less. That has been following instructions on some comments I have read. I will start trying to drink less. Any comments on the role of willpower in the process?

Willpower is a difficult approach, it generally won't work, and it feels like a hardship. You're denying yourself something. Just makes you want it all the more.

Since you want to drink less, make a plan to drink less or at least be aware of what you're drinking. Having three drinks over the course of an event or a day is not willpower it's just being reasonable. Same thing with alcohol free days. Doesn't have to be every day, just a few days a week, and that's anything but a hardship or will power.

It's crazy to think that drinking every single day, or drinking excessively at a sitting is a good thing.

UKB summed it up well " I had also seen through alcohol a long time before TSM, I knew it was a con and I knew it wasn't essential in anyone's life."

Think of it as changing habits for the better, not depriving yourself. It's a positive change!

Thanks Guapo,

My experience is that gritting teeth doesn't work and neither does chugging away in the same old, same old, same old way.

I believe that TSM doesn't do the work, only you do the work and TSM helps relieve the physical drive to drink.

So you have to make changes to facilitate less drinking.

A plan, always a plan.

One useful tool I have used many times is when attending social events always make sure you are well fed, warm, don't arrive right at the start, and don't stay right til the end (when drinking alcoholically I'd stay for maximum time to drink the most and chasing the ultimate high). This way you minimise pressure and opportunity to drink.

If you drink whilst getting ready for something, switch it for a coffee or herbal tea. Put off drinking as much as you can.

Remove sources of alcohol, don't be afraid to pour it away - and the loo (lavatory) is the best way to minimise backdraft smells.

Biggest thing to remember is that it is OK to not drink. I feel that is one of the biggest hurdles many people do not realise.

This may be my biggest surprise realization in doing TSM. Looking back, it's amazing how I was like a person with an obsession where if I didn't do some ritual, the world will fall apart.
