Hi there

I haven't been on here for a good while , I will update my original introduction next week . For now I have a question . Lets say Selincro or Naltrexone is working for you but when you started the side effects were quite bad maybe for a few days and then you got used to the drug . You then stop drinking for a while about 2 months in my case and you decide you will drink one night but the side effect are bad again as you are not used to it anymore . question is if you are just drinking every few weeks or once a month and you suffered from bad side effects first day , will you not suffer those same side effects each month you drink as you are not used to the drug anymore . Hope that makes sense

J.

I think probably yes. As in if you have followed TSM, had a stretch of AF, take nal, have SE it will repeat itself. Not that SE necessarily have to have anything to do with how often you take the drug. If you take naltrexone you could step in the dose again and break the pill with the risk of your dopamine receptors not being covered. If you, like me, take Nalmefine, the pills shouldn't be broken and you have the SE dilemma.

I'm thinking perhaps to order some naltrexone and try that for if/when I want to have a drink again.

All the best

Snowflake

I've wondered the same thing, jokerman. If you do decide to go back to a day of drinking after a few months off, definitely let us know what the experience was like and whether or not the side effects were like they were the first time.

Hi there thanks for the input snowflake and Je , I was actually on naltrexone previous to nalmefene , I found the se
on naltrexone easier but I did take half for a few days first other than crazy dreams and bad sleep for the first few days it was ok .
I switched to Nalmefene las nov/dec so I cant really remember how bad the se were but since January I have been trying to work on myself as well as taking nal ie gym /fitness ,better diet etc more af days , so didn't have a drink for about 2 months until last Saturday . I didnt intentionally give it up it just happened . So back to last Saturday I bought 5 large beers 500 ml and a bottle of wine took my nal and while I was on the laptop I start to get agitated , bad form , nervous , pins and needles on my head ,its hard to explain . After the hour I drank half of one bottle of beer my intention was to drink all 5 ,I had to force half of it down and then threw out the rest , I then watched tv and drank the bottle of wine even though the taste was bad it was easier to drink than beer . All the next day sunday I felt bad still nervous agitated etc . I know when I started nalmefene the side effects went away after a while .
I think maybe I should change over to naltrexone or else drink a few glasses of wine once a week just to stay used to nalmefene .

Well done on your 2 months AF.

Selincro is mean with side effects and the pills are so small they are difficult to split.

Perhaps going back to Naltrexone is the answer, or staying AF?

I resumed nal + al after 30 days of abstinence and expected worse in terms of SEs but they were very minor.
