Hello, I'm new so please be gentle with me.

I found my way here seeking some options to help a young friend of mine who has a number of issues. He is a heavy drinker which exacerbates his mental health problems and is stuck in a destructive cycle which he really wants to break free from. He has asked me to support him and TSM seems to have the potential to help him with this. He is however terrified of anything that might make his mental health worse, he has had a really bad experiences in the past with medication and is naturally unwilling to take a chance on this. He feels he is broken enough as it is. He wants to go to rehab but the only ones here which are government funded you have to be sober for 6 months before they will even consider you or else follow some 12 step program, which I personally, am very suspect about.

I think it would also be the wrong environment for him. He does not relate well to others unless he knows them well and feel safe around them, and any kind of group therapy environment where you have to account for your behaviors will just be traumatic for him and totally counter productive.

Does anyone here have any experience with mental health issues such as schizophrenia, fugue states, dissociation, hallucinations and psychosis and how they manage on TSM? If it weren't for this I think this would be a great option for him to explore but the last think I want to to do more harm than good. I am pretty sure the local mental health professionals he deals with would have little information and even if they did it would go against the treatment models they use like CBT and group therapy.
