Well, I need to come clean here. I took my Naltrexone last night and tied one on with vodka. I awoke this a.m. with a terrible hangover, racing heart, etc. I was afraid to take the Naltrexone became a bit paranoid with the hangover and had two drinks without taking it. I don't know what to do now. Do I start over from the beginning tomorrow. I haven't purchased the book yet and could use some advice from those of you who might know. I am worried/disgusted/overwhemed and defeated right now. The drinks did lesson the hangover affects but I know I messed up and need some help with what to do next. Thanks

How long have you been taking NAL?

You should still be covered if you took it last night and drank this morning. I've read things from 11 hours of effectiveness to 24 hours. However The Dr. States: "Naltrexone 50 mg will block the effects of opiates and endorphins for 24 hours." in some cases for drinkers who are 24/7 drinker they might want to up the dose to 2 times a day just to be covered. I do that when I'm drinking over the weekend.

As far as Hangovers are concerned. If yesterday was your first time taking it and you changed from wine to vodka that might be the reason it's more pronounced today. I don't have hangovers or the shakes anymore when I over do it. I don't know if it's the NAL or the fact that I still take 500mg of Magensium and 600mg of B-1 (in 3 doses through out the day) and 5_htp and Milk Thistle, B-12 (all the supplements I took while I was on Toppa and MWO. I always make sure I take them before I go to bed and when I first wake up.

You don't have to start again, if you are drinking now, take the NAL NOW if you plan on continuing for the rest of the day.

As far as "I am worried/disgusted/overwhemed and defeated right now" That's not what TSM is about. We admit we drink, we have good weeks and bad weeks and we aren't defeated because we over did it. It takes time to work and we question it because we don't feel it working, but it is (I know it is). So don't feel these things that for the other methods when you mess up. We are drinking to get cured Nal+drinking=cure.

Thanks one and all for the posts to my concerns. I do beat myself up. I will take the Naltrexone now. I am interested in the combo of the 5htp with the Naltrexone. I was taking the 5htp but was afraid of it with the Naltrexone so I stopped. Please advise on dosage and when. I would like to go back to it since I have a tendency towards depression and don't want to take any other drug. Thanks again

I don't have the answer to this, but do have a question. Did the 5htp work for your depression?

I felt that the 5htp was working but stopped when I started the Naltresone because I was afraid of interactions and or liver problems since both affect the liver plus alcohol etc. Please let me know your thoughts on this one. Thanks.

Hi LaBear...I don't take 5hTP but I take Tryptophan which is a different form of the same supplement...

I started taking it to help with anxiety but it makes me so sleepy that I use it as a sleeping pill. I only take one a night now after I drink with Nal and I have no issues with it...makes me dream more vividly. I don't think there is any adverse interaction between the two other than if you take 5HTP and it makes you sleepy, the Nal will likely increase that affect.

Thanks for the info. took tryptophan years ago and then stopped when it was taken off the market. Kind of afraid to take the 5htp along with drinking and naltrexone, not sure of the combo but appreciate your response! Looks like you are doing really great on this program.

50mg of Nal will keep your opiate system locked down for 24hrs. In fact, Dr. Eskapa's book says one needs to lay off Nal for a good day an a half before Nal is washed out of your system to the point that one can experience actives without worring that Nal will affecting these experiences.

You were most certainly still covered from the Nal you took the night before. Don't sweat it.
