I just wanted to mention something that may be of help for overall good health for everyone and particularly for those drinking heavily.

As I had mentioned in one of my previous threads, my husband tried the “Seven Weeks to Sobriety” approach about 12 years ago. Although it did not help him with his drinking it did provide us with lots of great information regarding supplements and physical and mental health that we still use today.

One of the ailments mentioned in the book, that alcoholics/heavy drinkers are prone to is low stomach acid. Interestingly the signs for low stomach acid and excess stomach acid are the same and most people, (and physicians) will assume excess is the problem, when more often it is the opposite. My husband administered the self test to determine if he did have low stomach acid. The results were he was very definitely deficient. And all that time he had been taking antacids tablets for his stomach issues and just making his situation worse! Anyway he got his levels back up again, and we had forgotten all about it. Now with all the drinking he has been doing I mentioned he should problem check himself again. Sure enough he is once again low. The repercussions of low acid are many (stomach ailments, fatigue, depression, etc). Stomach acid is vital for our absorption of nutrients and the breakdown of protein. The self test involves taking a betaine/HCL capsule 30 minutes following a meal and increasing by one capsule with each meal (not to exceed 5000 mg HCL at any one meal) until one detects a warm/burning sensation, then you cycle down by one capsule. Here is one link to check out if interested: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/dig5.php (google how to test for low stomach acid, or how to take HCL pills and you will find several links). Obviously if one has an ulcer this is not recommended. I'm not sure if low stomach acid has any impact on TSM/Naltrexone, but regardless I think addressing it can be very beneficial for better health.
