Information has surfaced recently that Nodict, the Naltrexone brand typically purchased from River Pharmacy, may not work with The Sinclair Method.

Following are a selection of threads from TSM members detailing their issues with Nodict and TSM:

Nodict is a coated version of Naltrexone and could be a time released medication. Time Released Naltrexone will not provide the protection needed for The Sinclair Method to be effective.

Some members have reported that chewing Nodict tablets will provide the Nalrexone protection needed for TSM, but this is unproven at this point.

Naltima brand of Naltrexone (available from All Day Chemist and River Pharmacy) is a good alternative to Nodict, as it is uncoated.

Note: Nodict is a brand of Naltrexone typically only available from India distributors. If you are getting your Naltrexone by a PhD prescription, you very likely are not taking Nodict.

WOW Q – That is a huge revelation! I have been using Nordict since I started in May of 2011. Looks like I need to place an order with All Day Chemist ASAP. Hopefully they deliver to the US without a prescription. In the meantime I guess that I will give chewing the coated pills a try.
I would like to read up on this subject could you share with me where you found this information?
Thanks,
Diver

Well, this is certainly interesting. I have also been taking for quite sometime. Although my drinking has reduced, i haven't got it to the level i want. I just got a 120 pill order, there is almost $300 down the drain.

To make it worse, i had Gastric Bypass surgery 11 years ago, and anything time released does not work for me. Bummer!

I initially read about time release medications here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_release_technology

Suspecting Nodict included this time release technology, I took a tablet to my pharmacist and asked him. He cut the tablet and believed it to be a time release tablet (his opinion of course -- no empirical information to support it) .

Time release simply will not work with TSM. We need the full dose all at once, then a 1 hr wait for the NAL to get into our system. If my memory is correct, I believe their is even a discussion related to this in Dr Eskapa's book. I don't think it addresses time release NAL directly, but it talkes about when NAL levels peak in our system, then decay over time. Something along these lines...

While we don't know for sure if Nodict is time release or not, there is enough doubt/question about it that I believe we need to be concerned about it. Moreover, there are enough people on these forums who are reporting issues with Nodict that their is real cause for concern. As I group, I believe we need to be very suspect of Nodict until we can get some PROFESSIONAL verification that it will work with TSM.

Here is the post that clarifies the controversy over Nodict from River Pharmacy.
"There has been some controversy over Nodict because of one post from a TSM member. To clarify, Nodict is not a time released tablet. It is a compressed tablet with a very thin coating. This coating makes it easier to swallow and improves the appearance of the tablet. It does not cause it to become a time released tablet. Time released tablets require a special matrix type of formulation, which would greatly increase the cost of the tablet. An analogy would be the red coated 500mg Tylenol tablets. They also are not long acting, however the red coating is attractive and some think easier to swallow. River has been a trusted source of naltrexone for many years and we continue to support the efforts and hard work of all the members of TSM. If anyone has questions, please contact Debbie at River. If anyone wants to order Naltima, please call our help line. We supply both Nodict and Naltima and both are good products - neither of which are time released."

P.S. You can purchase either Nodict or Naltima from River Pharmacy.
