I have been doing TSM for almost 1 year and 8 months. It has helped me tremendously in so far that I'm a lot more in control and units are way down so I think of nal as a medicine i take before drinking,I realize I have to put some effort in and thats something I have not done, just take my nal one hour before. So I'm planning on not drinking for one month because really i find drinking is just a habit at this stage and am finding it very difficult to break the habit.
Wine and vodka used to be my drinks of choice but I extinquised those very early,I opened a bottle of wine last night, took a sip and almost gagged so had some of my husbands whiskey instead, that goes down a lot better. But the strange thing is that I don't care for whiskey so why do I bother.I'm having a JWB right now and not enjoying it but I 'm not throwing it down the sink, just keep sipping it.
It would seem that it should be easy to just quit but I can't,4 AF days is as much as I can manage.

My goal is to be able to have 4 drinks not more that twice a week and also I'm one of those people who hates taking pills so just having to take 2 nals a week wouldn't be so bad.

Anybody up for trying a month AF,we could check in here and support each other.I think a month without alcohol would really clear the head.

Cheers Dee

Wow, almost two years on TSM?

That sounds like a pretty long time to me... Sorry, but I've got curious: how much Nal have you been taking? 25mg? 50mg? 100mg? How much?

And one more question: how often have you been drinking? Do you usually drink everyday? Once each two or three days? How often?

I hope you find your way out, that's why I asked. Best regards!

Lonewarrior,I am not striving for total abstinence but rather very controlled drinking ,once a week would be great,I currently drink on avarage 3 times a week and have only ever taken 50 mgs each time.
So I have decided to continue with nal for as long as I drink and hopefully that will be just once or twice per week.
So 20 years from now I may still be on nal unless something else comes along.

Hi again, Dee! Could you please tell me how long does a "drinking session" take for you nowadays with Naltrexone? And how long did they use to take BEFORE you started doing TSM?
Nowadays each of my binges last about 5-6 hours long. Before doing TSM they used to take 2 or 3 days. I remember one of my last binges before syarting TSM that lasted 5 days!
This medicine is great. In my opinion it is the proof that alcoholism is a disease, undoubtedly.

Best regards! :)

Hi Dee,
Yes I'll take you up on it. I took NAL for several months and was making some progress, however I hated the side effects and stopped the NAL about a month ago. My old drinking patterns returned quickly, however I am convinced that I have residual benifits from NAL and with some effort I could abstain. So, here goes. It's July 18th, and I will start now. How are you doing by the way?
Best Wishes,
Retread
