My doc didn't tell me anything - didn't even tell me I'm supposed to keep drinking normally on this stuff. I found that out by doing my own research. So I have some questions for nal users, successful or not.

1) Does alcohol still produce noticeable effects when you drink on Nal? - pleasure, buzz, drunkenness, anything
2) Will Nal produce a hangover if I drink only a reasonable amount (ie. much, much less than I normally would - say, a few beers)?
a)That is, will it make me acutely sensitive to alcohol like antabuse?

Today is my 7th day without a drink, so I'm not experiencing any shakes, sweats, withdraw right now, but I'm craving hard. I can't concentrate. I'd like to be able to take the Nal and have a drink to get the craving out of the way, and stay sober enough to do work. So will a beer or two work like it typically does and make me want to drink so much that I won't work? Or will it help me maintain control enough to manage life like a normal person? I think that's the goal of this medication, if my information has been correct so far.

Thanks, all.

You may want to read the weekly progress threads many of us have going here. There is a lot of practical information as each of us takes our journey. Your mileage will vary based on how closely you follow Dr. Sinclair's experiments.

To your questions:

1. You will get drunk. You will not feel the warm buzz when you drink. You will feel the alcohol though. So, don't try driving.
2. Don't know, depends on your body makeup. I don't get them for reasonable amounts. Some here get a hangover for almost any amount. When I do get a hangover, it's absolutely brutal.
3. No. It will not make you sick.

Will a beer lead to more? Probably not, but you may have extinction bursts. I don't know of anyone who hasn't cut way back during TSM. How much varies.

You probably should buy Eskapa's book and read it. Just remember he is wrong about the timelines. Pretty much all of us here agree he was overly optimistic.

Also, if you expect to replicate Dr. Sinclair's results, you will have to replicate his experiment as closely as possible.

Just a small correction - for some of us, nal DOES make us quite nauseous and sometimes even vomit from drinking. However, that's usually just a side effect in the first few days, not the main point of nal (so, unlike antabuse).

That's a good point EL. I am answering from the stand point of is it like antabuse, deliberately designed to make you sick. It isn't. I told an old drinking buddy what I am doing, and his first words, without even hearing what I was saying, were, "I am not taking pills to make me sick."
