He/she asked their TSM Dr:
Quote:
'should I make myself drink more to activate the extinction process'?. He put it this way, 'don't let habit be the dictation, let the craving be the dictation of your action'. I thought that made sense.

I think thats indispensable advice. Too many times during this process did I force myself to drink when there was really no need to. This clarifies everything.

I want to say I feel like drinking just to extinguish the need to drink. It feels great. I think its here easier to take time inbetween when I drink, I only drink once a week - three weeks but then maybe for a couple a days or more, as I was working on abstinence. Now when I drink I don't start the cycle by drinking the next morning either

There are a couple schools of thought with respect to drinking sessions and extinguishing craving. The first is to let your craving drive your drinking frequency. This is traditional TSM drinking. The second is to drink as frequently as you can, but not to excess. The point being that the more often you drink on NAL, the quicker you will see results.

Personally, I think both are valid approaches. I chose the second approach because I wanted to be cured as quickly as possible. Therefore, I often drank when I had no craving to drink. For the first month or so, I drank everyday even though I was more of a binge drinker where I'd drink to excess 3-4 days a week.

I was essentially a binger drinker too, but had had periods of daily drinking at various points. When I started TSM I found that the fact Naltrexone made it a lot 'safer' to drink, ie no blackouts and generally drinking a lot less, that I then let myself drink whenever I wanted to - or should I say when the urge took me instead of trying to hold out for as long as possible.

Result was that yes, I did drink daily albeit only in the evenings. After a while it became obvious my desire was much less, and that I was only drinking out of habit. So I put in AF days finding it effortless.

So I'd say I simply drank when I wanted to, no more and no less which I believe is TSM.
