Has anyone experienced ringing or buzzing n their ears after taking Nal? The last couple of weeks I have had a constant buzzing sound in my ears and wondered if this is a common side effect from the medication. It appears to be getting worst and not sure if I need to talk to my doctor about it. Anyone else suffering with this?

Thanks!

Hi Dancer,

I can share my personal experience - but this in no way a substitute for professional mdical advice ;)

I experienced ringing in my ears when I first started taking Nal - but it went away after 1 week. It's one of the initial side affects for some people.

1% of people taking naltrexone experience more severe range of ear discomfort: “clogged” or aching ears and severe tinnitus.

For the more experienced people on this board to help we need to know the answers to the following questions:

How long have you been taking Nal?

How bad is the ringing on a scale of 1 - 10? (10 being so bad you can't sleep)

When you say it's getting worse, can you describe what you mean?

If you've been taking Nal for less than 2 weeks, my (unqualified) view is that the ringing / aching should soon pass - but of course this is no substitute for professional advice.

Other medication - especially Anti-depressants (SSRIs) can cause rining in the ears too - are you taking any other medication?

Lipitor, Pepto-Bismol, Accutane (anti-acne) can also cause tinnitus. http://ezinearticles.com/?Secrets-to-Stop-the-Ear-Ringing---5-Drugs-That-Cause-Tinnitus&id=1447191

Good luck, Andy.

Hi Dancer - I read on a pharmacy site that Nal can cause tinnitus, so you are not imagining it. It isn't pemanent....it is just one of the SEs. It may or may not go away while you are on Nal, but I do have a solution for you. I have lived with tinnitus for 10 years which is entirely unrelated to Nal. Instead, it is related to dehydration. I have noticed that Nal makes me more dehydrated than before I took it. So, I suggest you start drinking a lot more water....between the Nal and Al you are likley significantly dehydrated. Try for one day to really saturate yourself with water (like 64 or more ounces) and the next day you should have no tinnitus. That was my cure for tinnitus and when I spoke with my ENT specialist about it his eyes lit up like I had discovered something remarkable that he hadn't thought of before.

I've been experiencing tinnitus in my right ear for about a month now, and didn't realize Nal could cause it. I've been on TSM since last June, so am coming up on one years - surprising I'd just now be developing SEs. I'm on SSRIs as well. Hope it's not permanent.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I started taking Gingo in the hopes it will help. Will let you know. It's not bad until I think about it. Still worth it!!!
